The Vineyard has long been an oasis of good food and service in this part of the world and it has recently moved up a notch with better food and the same level of service. What better place to have a good lunch on mid-week with friends?

Four of us had afternoon tea at The Vineyard on a Sunday afternoon. We had a very friendly welcome from the staff and shown to a lovely table. The afternoon tea consisted of 4 sandwiches, 2 scones, 4 cakes and unlimited tea or coffee of our choice. It was very tasty and the service was very attentive (if at times too attentive!). We weren’t rushed and ended up spending 3 hours there taking our time and enjoying the food. I would highly recommend this hotel restaurant if you want afternoon tea in the Newbury area.

We came here - not for the first time - for a celebratory meal and came away fully satisfied. This is perhaps the most expensive restaurant in West Berkshire, but you get value for money. The staff are unusually attentive and the food is absolutely fantastic. There are several menus to chose from, some with fitting vine selection.

We are staying in the area and heard that Peter Michael had a hotel/restaurant nearby. After a little online research we decided to pay a visit. It is very high end and plush. The entrance is the lobby for the hotel as well as the entrance to the restaurant and wine cellar. We had planned just to come in and look around. So many fun bottles to look at! Plus a large wall painting depicting The Judgement in Paris. It would have been enough, however, they do have 100 wines by the glass and after looking at the menu decided to sit down and enjoy a glass. Not too many places have Santenay and Cote Rotie on their by the glass menu. They did. We ordered and enjoyed. 30,000 bottles, 3000 different wines and 100 by the glass. What fun!!!
