A group of family and friends stayed at the Leaside for two nights. The welcome and hospitality was exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff made it a weekend to remember. Everything was done on time and the food was plentiful and delicious. The hotel has a lovely Terrace to enjoy the fie weather. I would recommend this hotel as an ideal venue.

We booked this hotel before an early morning flight.
Booked because we hate staying in typical airport hotels!

Its a little tricky to find, beware of the very rough road down to the car park!

On check in were greeted by a friendly woman, who upgraded us to the coach suite. Nice room!

We arrived at 5pm on a Sunday, to "We don't serve food on a Sunday, and I don't recommend anywhere". She may have been chilled with us as we are a young couple, but I didn't really appreciate that! Luckily you are just up the road from the main city and we just popped into Nandos. We did ask if the bar would be open (they'd had a private party, who would be turfed out at 8pm, but she said the bar was open to us all night)

Upon our return, about 7:30, we headed to the bar/gin bar. Both of which are in one room. No menus on the tables, so my partner asked to see the Gin menu. He was met with a very rude "The gin bar is closed". I went up and asked if all drinks were finished, and the man said just the gin bar was closed. I didn't really see why they closed it for the night, seeing as a sign on the gin bar said "order at the main bar"....we didn't want much, just a couple of gin and tonics. The attitude of the man at the bar put us right off, and we left without buying anything and felt very defeated.

To make it worse, the lady who checked us in....was sat at the bar...drinking gin, and got up to make herself another one! (off duty obviously) but not once did she acknowledge that we were having issues.

It was a real shame......i'd booked the hotel primarily on the basis of having a quirky bar, and I don't believe that it mentions anywhere online that no food is served, and that the bar "closes" at 8pm? Maybe they thought we were part of the outside party, and didn't want to serve us?

We had to check out very early (5am) and just dropped our key in the box. Walked through the bar to get out, and saw what was presumably the night porter....asleep on a sofa! Thank god the gate was open in the car park, because that could have been an awkward conversation! Not sure if the hotel front door could have been opened from the outside.....but I do think that is a bit of a safety issue.

Having had the upgrade....I felt bad for leaving such a negative review, but sadly the negativity outshone the positive.

Reading other reviews....maybe we just picked a bad day?

We had our sons christning party today, all the staff were extremely helpful and everybody commented on how nice the food was that was provided by the hotel, would highly recommend.

The staff were good enough to put up the decorations for us too.

This is not a nice hotel. The place does seem upmarket but mainly because of the prices. (For example, 25 pounds for Sunday lunch, basically an all you can eat "tapas" buffet with a two hour time limit.)

The room we had was nice and showed attention to detail. We had booked for 8 nights but spent far fewer there. The issue was noise. The room overlooked the terrace, which was noisy when the sun shone and people flocked there, and because of renovations taking place below our room.

At night the trains were running through the nearby Luton station, the track being a few yards away. Finally on Friday night they had a disco there. We were warned that there would be a "singer" there on Friday. But not a full scale dance party. Our room was directly over it (as are several others) and we abandoned the room for alternative accommodation. We were just lucky that I had something else lined up, as the thumping of the bass from the disco was maddening.

The place is too expensive for what it is. It may be a pub and restaurant and people seem to be willing to pay the prices that they charge, but the tapas is nothing special (I get the feeling that the word "tapas" has become fashionable but meaningless. Is a hamburger a "tapas".) and the guests seem to have to take a second place to all the fun loving Lutonians who want to drop their money there.

Finally on location. They are on the edge of Luton Town, on New Bedford Road where it leaves the town. It is a short walk to the mall, for example. It is on a very noisy intersection and you also get car noise all night.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front (we had 103) face the terrace, trains and road. We never got to test the others.

We stayed at the Leaside Hotel for a weekend break. The staff were lovely. They were friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The weather was hot and we enjoyed sitting often in their outside space. The beds were very comfortable. I would stay there again if in Luton. The building itself very attractive...old English and the bar area funky and fun....
