“Spacious comfortable house for a big family”

Wellwood lodge is a lovely house to spend a week in. It is so good to travel with baby twins and a four year and not have to worry about packing cots and high chairs. The facilities are first rate and the kitchen is brilliantly equipped, could even find cake decorating equipment to put the finishing touches to my Mum's birthday cake! The utility room came in very handy and it was great to be able to not only do the washing but make use of a tumble dryer too! All the rooms can easily cater for large groups, we were nine adults and three children. There was plenty of space in the living room and it was excellent to be able to all sit comfortably together for big family dinners. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this house to you as a great place to stay and a lovely base for exploring Buxton and the surrounding area.

“Aspects of this property are disappointing”
Reviewed 5 May 2015 for a stay in April 2015

We rented this property for a week to celebrate my 60th birthday with several members of our family. The size of the house and equipment provided is very good and it is only a short walk to the lovely town centre of Buxton. However the decor both outside and in is very shabby and in need of updating. The cleanliness of the house leaves a lot to be desired and although we enjoyed our holiday we were a little disappointed overall.

Management Response
8 May 2015
Thank you for writing a review of my property, I am sorry that you were disappointed with some aspects of your stay.
The Victorian stone built property with modern white UPVC windows and conservatory is exceptionally well maintained, no rotten wood, leaking gutters etc, 'shabby' is an unjustified comment.
Internally, yes there are some older styles of decor to suit the property's age and to enable quick spruce ups when some visitors put up celebratory banners etc without thought to the damage sticky substances might do to the decor.
I have a revolving scheme of updates which you would have noticed in the dining room, lounge and bathrooms.
On the cleanliness front, I take pride in presenting in the short time available at changeover a well scrubbed kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms. If you found some areas less pristine I apologise that my cleaning team did not come up to my usual standards on this occasion.
I am pleased however that you gave credit for the spaciousness of the property, the equipment within and the handy location for Buxton's town centre, these aspects are particularly appreciated by the groups that spend time at my property.

“Fantastic! Back next year”

Wonderful weekend away pre Christmas. 6 adults and 6 children (4 - 14years) and Rufus the dog. Big rooms, comfortable beds even a games cellar! Plenty of space. Very well equipped kitchen. We can't fault it and WILL return for a longer period next year. We have used many cottages/houses for family get-togethers but this was the best we have used by far.

“Perfect 90th birthday celebration at Wellwood Lodge”
Reviewed 23 October 2014 for a stay in October 2014

We booked Wellwood Lodge for my parents 90th birthday celebration , a surprise family weekend gathering of 3 generations . We found the facilities to be a very high standard, catering for all ages and spotlessly clean. The dining room table was particularly impressive as it catered for 12 of us for our celebration meal. The living room was large enough for everyone to relax yet still be cosy. The bedrooms large and comfortable and the kitchen equipment faultless. I would recommend this house for anyone looking for a large family gathering.
