Stayed with friends on Saturday night and booked through secret escapes. It seemed a good deal with chocolates, wine, movies, dinner contribution, breakfast and spa.
Positives:
* look and feel of the hotel - it was upmarket and modern luxury.
* rooms - very spacious and we overlooked the lake with beautiful views. Large king size, comfortable bed. Chocolates and prosecco in the room.
* good quality breakfast..fresh pastries, smoothie on tap, full English (including black pudding and hash browns), scrambled egg. Think you can order different eggs, but nobody asked us.
* spa - we arrived at 5.30pm and still full of kids, but they started to filter out. Great choice of spa facilities; hammam, steam, salt, sauna, jacuzzi, heated seats...my friend got a massage and said it was good.
Development areas:
* Unlimited movies - there was an on demand section, but was only about 15 films to chose from.
* Dinner - prices at the restaurant are quite high and so our dinner contribution of £30pp just about got us a main meal each. The food was okay, but portions were very small on the starters and the quality wasn't amazing. We asked whether we could bring the hotel supplied prosecco into Browns restaurant and they said no, which we respected, but I have done this before at other hotels.

During dessert, the waiter scalded my friend with boiling hot tea on her hands. He continued to pour a Diet Coke for me before he went and got her some ice in a towel. This was a painful experience and there was a small apology but would have expected a more professional response. There was no follow up on how she was and albeit petty, the chamomile tea was still on the bill at the end of our evening.
Overall we enjoyed our stay, but the service was rather disappointing and therefore I would stay again, but would avoid the restaurant and go to a nice country pub where my expectations would be lower, but service would probably be better.
