Spotted this monument from a near by amusement park and it reminded me that I wanted to go have a look at it at some point so I thought I would go while it was fresh in my memory. When I got there the monument was in the middle of an industrial estate at the end of the sea front activities. It is the strangest place to have such a notable monument of a person who is one of the most well known people England have ever had. The area is totally run down and this section of the industrial estate was like a ghost town...why the council have let all these run down and pointless building be built around this monument is beyond me and there should be more things around the monument to make the area a bit grander and more accessible to the public...im an out of towner and it would be so easy to miss this thing if you didn't know the area.the monument itself is ok apart from needing cleaning and maybe so more things around it to give you more info on the man and his life....it just needs a bit more of an "X" factor to it and maybe even relocate it. Not worth making an effort to see it unless you are 5 or 10 minutes walk away then I say go and have a quick look at it

Well worth the short detour to explore this iconic reminder of Gt. Yarmouth's naval heritage and Norfolk's greatest son.

The nelson monument stand proud in a industrial estate but back last August was the 200th anniversary of the monument people dressed in period army clothes etc. it was most spectacular. In the summer at certain times the monument is open to the public a staircase lead to the top.

When in Gt Yarmouth I visited the monument and what a Trophy to the man it is intended for, I understand it is open at certain times but unfortunately this time it was not open.
