“FEELING DISAPOINTED”
Reviewed 31 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Booked to go here with family (10 adults and 7 children ages 2 mths to 13 yrs).
Good points:
The view is outstanding and the house is large with plenty of space. The kitchen is well stocked and a good size for family meals (sat all of us comfortably). Both the reception rooms are large which helped if everyone wanted to stay in the same room or if we wanted a quieter evening we would slope off to the back reception room and conservatory. The garden is mainly grass and is very kid friendly. Location is good just being 3 miles from Bude.

Bad points:
We arrived at 3pm as stated on confirmation, House not ready still being cleaned. Disappointing. Oh well we thought we'll go into the garden as the sun was out and wait. We waited around 30 minutes for the cleaners to finish, no big deal we thought....it happens. Once we had settled in we realised how much the property was in need of a deep clean. Disappointing. It was musty, smelt of damp in some of the bedrooms, The kitchen pans were dirty, one of the bedroom duvet covers looked as though it had dried blood on it. All in all a proper deep clean would eradicate most if not all of the above issues.
We also felt we were sharing the house with workman as they were continually painting the exterior whilst we were there. Disappointing. Not really on when we had toddlers running around outside. The dishwasher was blocked when we first used it, we mentioned it to the owner which in turn he gave us something to put in it to clean it which worked for 2 washers then it blocked again. We asked again on the 3rd day but this wasn't fixed again. Disappointing.
Wifi. States there is wifi. Which is correct when your in the kitchen, walk out of the kitchen and the signal disappears and when it is working its very very slow. Disappointing. The house is on a main road as it says in the description, you cant walk out anywhere from the house as the road is busy with fast moving traffic and no path ways. Disappointing.

Believe it or not it was still a great holiday,There ids lots to do locally, the house could be a very nice place to stay with a little TLC and a very good deep clean. I have pointed out a lot of negatives from us about the house but there mostly cleanliness problems which can be rectified instantly the wifi, walking and sharing the house with workman may not bother you.

In summary nice house good could be nicer.

We believe that this is as unfair and incorrect review in several respects:
1. The guests arrived 45 minutes before the permitted time of 3pm (2.15pm). As this is a large house, the cleaning generally takes place right up to 3pm. The guests didn't want to leave and come back at 3, or to wait in their cars, so we let them into the garden, where the lawns were still being mowed.
2. The guests specifically told us that they didn't mind the workman completing the external painting while they were there. If they had said they minded we would have completed the painting later, which we offered. The work is now completed and the house is looking fresh, clean and tidy.
3. The house was well aired before these guests arrived and well cleaned, we generally have very positive remarks about cleanliness. The guests did not mention or show us any issues regarding cleanliness.
4. The guests mentioned the problem with he dishwasher, and we immediately gave them a solution for cleansing and unblocking dishwashers. Several days later the guests told us that the problem had re-occurred, but that they didn't need the dishwasher anyway and were coping fine without it. We therefore waited a couple of days till the guests departure before replacing the dishwasher to avoid disturbing them. There is now a new dishwasher in the property, which works very well. We would have been very happy to change the dishwasher immediately if the guests hadn't said they didn't require it.
5. The issue with the wifi could easily and immediately have been resolved if the guests had informed us of the problem.
6. There is a small lane beside the property which leads down to a bridleway and connects with footpaths to Marhamchurch and on to Bude or Widemouth Bay. It is not necessary to go along the main road to access it. In addition, the Planekeepers Path along the old canal to Bude starts at the layby a few hundred metres from the property, so there are in fact many opportunities for walking either directly from the property or from very nearby. We are always happy to give directions to these if guests need any assistance.

“Brilliant house for large groups, well-equipped & stunning views”

I would thoroughly recommend Thurlibeer House for large groups. The house is very spacious with lovely cosy rooms and 2 large lounge areas with plenty of comfy sofas. One of the lounges has absolutely stunning views across the hills towards the sea. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking for large numbers and there were lots of games provided to keep everyone entertained. The garden is beautiful and well maintained, a great space for playing cricket, skittles, football, etc. The house is a short drive from some nice beaches, and not far from shops/pubs in Bude. The owner was really quick at replying to emails and was very friendly when we met him.

Thurlibeer house was great for our lage party of 17. The view from the conservatory far exceeded my expectations. The rooms were roomy and had plenty of storage. Our group age ranged from 5 to 86 and everyone was catered for. The area was perfect for visiting lots of local interests and the car park can hold at least 6 cars comfortably. When help was needed Chris was very good at dealing with it and nothing was too much trouble. I would definately recommend this house and hope one day to return. If only to rent the cotta.ge

“Beautiful well equipped home with fantastic views”

15 of us stayed at Thurlibeer House over the weekend as part of a hen do. The house is large with 2 living rooms and a conservatory along with games, books, a football table and pool table. The kitchen is well equipped too. The garden has beautiful views out towards the coast. We had a great stay and the owner is very approachable and reasonable. The showers and toilets all work. The only things to bring are soap, towels, extra toilet roll and shampoo/cond. The house couldn't have suited us more and was a reasonable price- I would definitely recommend it. I would like to stay again in the future. Thank you Chris!

“Dose what is says on the tin.”
Reviewed 8 September 2013 for a stay in August 2013

11 of us headed off to Thurlibeer house with 3 dogs in tow, arrived at about 3 to be met by someone who spoke very little English, strange, but we then found someone who did. A little unusual, the meet and greet, basicaly it was "theres the key, theres the house", no tour or anything explained. We looked arround and it is massive, loads of room for everyone. The decor is a little dated and could do with some TLC, but did not cause us any problems. Rooms furnished ok and beds comfortable. There are 2 sets of keys to the main doors and another to the side door. The kitchen is huge as is the table and the fridge big enough for food for 11. There is no WIFI and not a lot of mobile signal. Plenty of hot water, we did'nt need the heating. All in all a good place to stay if there are lots of you.

There is wifi - we ask guests to connect on arrival, as we need to give you the code and press a button on the router for initial connection. After that you can reconnect at any time. It sounds like this didn't happen on this occasion - if there's any problem call Chris on 07811-285839. Thanks
