There aren’t many places where the boyfriend and I can have a good old roll’n’ stroll along the seafront to burn some calories off before our big afternoon tea, but Weymouth seafront, thankfully, is one of them.
The entire length of pavement along the bay is pretty flat, laid with tarmac and step-free. The wheelchair users’ smelliest enemy - dog poop, was duly spotted and carefully avoided. There was only one lot thankfully. The rest of the pavement was very clean and the rubbish bins clean and not overflowing. The head wind was an issue at times, so was the fact we are both middle-aged and perpetually achy, but we can’t hold Weymouth personally responsible for those things can we?
We parked at the Seacat terminal, where there are a good number of disabled parking bays. Please note: disabled parking is chargeable here, but (and I didn’t spot this until afterwards) blue badge holders get an extra hour of parking on top of their stated ticket expiry time for free. Street parking along the seafront appeared to be free for blue badge holders, but the kerbs can be high, so bear in mind you might have to get out of your car into the road and find a dropped kerb somewhere else to get onto the pavement if you are a wheelchair user.
We look forward to visiting again in the summer and seeing the sand sculpture exhibits when they fully open up after Easter, but even in Winter, we had a great day out.
