We liked the Ambrose. At first we were surprised that it is located above a pub but the room was very clean and spacious, with a comfy bed and lots of tea bags/cream/biscuits, etc. The breakfast was fine and the staff were very friendly indeed. The only problem is that on a Saturday there is live music in the pub till midnight, which means that the noise levels above were high. But they did stop exactly on the midnight hour! Apparently the rest of the week it is quiet. The hotel is also less than 10 minutes walk from the city centre. One more think - the price was very very cheap for such quality.

Room Tip: Try the second floor on a Saturday to reduce the noise level from the bar to a minimum

This nice hotel is combined with a public house (pub) downstairs, so you never have to leave :)

Should you wish to venture out, the hotel backs onto Barrow Rugby Union football club and is a short distance from the town centre and a shopping park.

Rooms are comfortable, teas, coffee, biscuits provided. Breakfast is very nice, well cooked full english and other options to choose from.

As another review mentioned there is "no lift", access to the rooms is via a door inside the pub leading upto the 2nd and 3rd floors.

The hotel itself is not suitable for wheelchair access (due to stairs), but users are able to access the bar and meal providing facilities.

If you are a fan of possible scary objects, room 6 looks down onto a house opposite that has a doll facing inwards in the window.......

The room was clean and tidy, if not a lIttIe noisy from the traffic outside. The front desk was not always manned, which was a bit annoying. But the staff are lovely and friendly. And the breakfast was first class, delicious! Thank you ladies!
