We have just spent an enjoyable break in Durham we chose the Premier inn for its central location, as with most city centre hotels parking is normally a problem but with this hotel two car parks are close by one is an open air across the road from the reception the other is a multi story car park with cctv directly behind the hotel if you park on the lower level it is only 3 min walk to the hotel. Parking in the multi story costs £7 for 24hrs but you have to get your parking ticket approved at reception, as the bus stop is right out side the hotel we just left the car in the car park and used the bus during our stay. We found the restaurant good value with excellent friendly staff our room was on the third floor (hotel has two lifts) was spacious with air-conditioning, the large comfortable bed had 4 good pillows, the room was clean and the shower was great with good pressure. If you want to visit the cathedral the cathedral bus stops right out side the hotel.

Commendations: quality of food and value for money in the Restaurant, coupled with excellent service from staff serving the meals--all locals.
Comfortable beds and good quality pillows. Well equipped rooms.
Mince pies and mulled wine in Reception was a welcoming gesture.

Needing attention: the noise is an issue. Passing party goers outside in the early hours, and, as 126 is directly above the hotel kitchen the smell of food being cooked and the noise of kitchen extractor fans serves as an alarm clock whether or not you want to be woken up at 6.3oam on a Sunday morning. A pity, as it marred an otherwise enjoyable stay.
Better directions to the nominated Car Park behind the hotel would also help. We parked on the public car park opposite the hotel which was more convenient.

Stayed two nights at Durham City Centre Premier Inn and found it very clean and comfortable, great size bed and all facilities needed for a short stay. Price paid was also very reasonable. Premier Breakfast was very good, lots to choose from. Staff were very friendly and explained everthing thoroughly. It was in a good location, near to centre of town so not too far to walk to shops, pubs, etc.

Room Tip: odd numbered rooms seemed to be above taxi rank and a bit noisy at night when pubs came out, etc but...

I love premier inn, and stay frequently due to work. But after a 2 night stay this week at the centre of Durham premier inn, I may not stay again. Car parking expensive, plus I had to walk from the multi storey which as a single female late evening in blizzard conditions I felt unhappy with, then I paid for Internet, which has moved to a very useless provider, and doesn't work according to the rest of the hotel and me. Lovely person who dealt with my call - (the new provider which cost me 20p per minute)and at the end of the call cost more than the 3 quid broadband! And it still didn't work . Caused problems as I was staying 2 nights. Had issues with reception staff who were trainees who said I would only be allowed to stay one night in the same room, then I would have to move for the 2nd night?? Final moan, soap dispenser hanging uselessly off the wall in bathroom, and no-one could be bothered to del with it.

Room Tip: Maybe stay in the premier inns not in the centre of Durham

Very good and close to shops. Car park behind difficult to find pay stations, they are where the stairs are. Also access from hotel difficult, we went the same way as cars. Hotel dining room very good, especially the meal deal.
