If you are registering late in the evening, do not hang about in your room as last orders in the restaurant is effectively 9.45 pm, although it states the restaurant closes at 10.00 pm. which it does and if late ordering are not under any pressure to eat quickly by the staff, however the kitchen has wound down so stops cooking from 9.45 pm which is understandable although somewhat confusing.

Went during university geaduation week. £145 for one night. Normally around £50. Unbelievably poor value for money. All hotels in Durham seemed to do this. Not very convenient to have parking in separate mulri-storey town car park. Close but not on site. Had to pay extra for that too.

I have stayed twice here while visiting my daughter at Durham University. It's a good place to stay at a good price. It's a few minutes walk to the nter of the town and no more than 10 minutes from the train station.
The rooms were clean and comfortable. The premier breakfast is decent, but for 9 pounds, you could probably eat at a cafe in the city.
The staff was very professional and handled the graduation crowds well.
The only downside is that the hotel is up several flights of steps to the city center... although there are elevators that you can use. It was fine for us but a little difficult for the grandparents in our party.

I stayed here while visiting my daughter, the first night was very noisy with the bass thuds from the three night clubs directly behind the hotel - even though my room faced the front. It was handy for the train station and the bed was really comfy. A few things that could have been better we're having somewhere to keep the key card by the door - I was worried I might leave without it. There was nowhere to hang the hand towel so it just stayed laid across the side of the sink, the kettle was plugged in front of the dressing table mirror and neither one could be moved! The breakfast was nice but I would have liked to have seen a bit more variety like prunes and salmon.
