This is a well restored and beautifully decorated little cottage with character. The owners have thought carefully about what they have provided within it, providing good quality furniture, china, cutlery etc. Anita and Bruce were very welcoming, provided bread, milk and lit some candles for our arrival. We also had a puncture on the way and Bruce was very helpful in contacting a garage so that we could get a new tyre the following morning. The cottage is out in the countryside where there are plenty opportunities for walking. We particularly enjoyed our visit to Beamish which is about 20 miles away (a really good day out). Our only disappointment was the restless nights we had due to our difficulty sleeping on a memory foam mattress. It may suit many other people, but our advice to everyone is to try one out for a night before you book a week away, or make sure it has a topper which can be removed if necessary. It was our own fault, as we had not done this and the type of mattress had been well advertised on the site. A lesson learned for us that we need to make sure its a normal mattress when we book elsewhere. We did love the cottage and would recommend it to others, but unfortunately we would be unable to return.
Another perfect stay at our favourite cottage.
Breathtaking views, comfy & cosy cottage, gorgeous bed. Just perfect in every way.
Hamsterley forest was a great Saturday morning out for a lovely long walk and bite to eat at the little cafe. Would definitely recommend a trip here whilst staying at the cottage.
Thanks again for a lovely get away from it all break x
We had a 3 night break at Butterfly Cottage and we thoroughly enjoyed it! It is a lovely little cottage that is fitted out to a very high standard, it is obvious that the owners of the property take great care of it. We were even greeted with some fresh bread, butter, milk, wine, chocolates and flowers which was a very nice touch and made us feel so welcome, they were much appreciated. The views are absolutely stunning - well worth the drive/walk up the steep hill! It is in a great location near loads of local attractions. All in all we had a lovely break and hope to stay here again in the near future.
What can I say that hasn't been said already. The booking process was straight forward. Bruce and Anita were very punctual in replying to my emails. A warm welcome awaited from Bruce, explaining how everything worked etc. The extras such as the freshly baked bread, flowers, chocolates, wine and dog biscuits were such thoughtful touches and very much appreciated. The cottage itself is beautiful, well presented, very well equipped and extremely cosy, the wood burning stove adding to the ambience. Everything you need is covered. The bathroom was quality, and it was nice to be able to take a bath or have the option of a hand held shower, especially after a long walk. The bed was extremely comfortable and the Alpaca pillows and quilt were fabulous.
The view from the cottage is breathtaking, it was wonderful to be surrounded by natural beauty and there are some great walks right on the doorstep. I came away full of admiration and knowing I need to return, in the not too distant future!
Lost count of the number of times we've stayed here now. Can't get enough of the beautiful cottage, its a home-from-home for us now! Everything is just spot on and the wonderful little extra touches are an added treat. Flowers, chocolates, wine and the delicious freshly made bread, not many places give such luxury goodies! We love everything about Butterfly Cottage. Anita and Bruce, the owners are so friendly and welcoming. We enjoy meeting all the collies and our collies have fun on visits too. Perfection and bliss - we even saw a little snow on this visit! Nothing at all missing nor is there anything to dislike. Here's to the next stay!
