We went to Thomas Carr’s Seafood and grill to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary while on holiday in Ilfracombe. The restaurant/bar has a really good atmosphere, and we had high hopes of a delicious meal. We were greeted personally and shown to our table where there was a surprise waiting for us, my sister, her husband and my niece had ordered a bottle of champagne for us. Since the restaurant staff were in on the surprise they now knew it was a special occasion and they treated us like royalty. My husband ordered Skate and I had Hake, both delicious. When our desserts came they were both piped with ‘happy anniversary’ in chocolate sauce. They were making fresh pizzas in an outside oven which looked brilliant as well, and there were lots of choices in drinks. They made us feel so special and really made it a perfect evening for us. Reasonably priced for such good food Highly recommended both for the food and the ambience.

My husband and I dined in the upstairs à la carte restaurant. We dined on a Wednesday evening and the dining room was about half full, all couples, so it was a bit ‘quiet’. I would have preferred a bit more hustle & bustle.
The dining room itself has lovely high ceilings, large windows and is tastefully decorated. I particularly liked the ceiling lights and the artwork.

The staff were very friendly.

The food was amazing.
I’m vegetarian and so often, even in very good restaurants, the vegetarian option is predictable and dull. Here though I had a very imaginative, beautifully presented taste sensation!
The wine list is very good and extremely well priced.
Will definitely return. Heartily recommend.

Had a fantastic night at this restaurant. Upstairs was very elegant and certainly felt like a special occasion meal. Enjoyed the food and atmosphere where I had the skate and my girlfriend had hake. Would benefit from a few more choices but both meals were delicious.

We then went downstairs for cocktails and had a great night tasting the different Gins (there are over 40). What made the evening was the attention given from the bar staff and we learnt all about the Gins and did the tasting challenges. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a nice evening of cocktails or food (or both like us).

Thank you for making the evening for us on our visit to the town.

Dined in the al la carte restaurant, the acoustics are a little off as it was very echoey but the decor is lovely and the artwork great for the space. We ordered drink downstairs and they were delivered to the table with speed and a smile. The menu was explained fully by Helen and an order taken promptly by Jess. The menu is concise and offers two meat and two fish options...not spoilt for choice but enough variation on the theme. The pigeon was amazing and the mackerel delicious. We had to wait a long time for mains and the sides arrived later than they should have, however the steak was mouth-wateringly good as was the skate. The service was second to non, efficient, warm and friendly without being overbearing. We didn't have room for deserts but enjoyed a two for one cocktails instead. Overall a very enjoyable experience made fabulous by stunning food and fabulous staff.

Thank you so much for the detailed review.

Your point about the acoustics is fair and accurate, something we hope to be able to remedy this Winter.

We're really glad we worth the wait and hope to see you again really soon.

We had a lovely meal seated on a big tall table for 10 of us. The garlic prawns to start were amazing, its hard to find them cooked and tasting just like they do in Spain! Yum!
We all had really nice mains with added chips and deserts that were all very tasty. Its definitely not "just pub grub", there is a relaxed Grill/ pub/ bistro atmosphere downstairs, we didn't go upstairs. The prices are slightly higher than the local family pubs but you really do get what you pay for and that is top quality food and extremely yummy cocktails!!!
