A delightful little cafe in the Victorian Wayfarers Arcade in the heart of Southport. The food is freshly prapared using authentic ingredients. French butter in the cakes and pastries. The welcome was warm and friendly, the decor simple with a feel of Paris. Our food was delicious and couldn't be faulted. The waffle menu was a temptation- maybe next time!

My Mother and I entered this cafe (which we had happily frequented in the past, under previous owners) loaded with shopping bags after a few hours in Southport, hoping to enjoy a relaxing lunch. On entering we asked the 'lady' staff member if we may leave our largest bag somewhere safely out of the way whilst we ate. Looking deeply uncomfortable, she finally pointed to a small area between counter and window and agreed it could be place there. Still having several other bacgs, we sat down at a table for three, placing our remaining bags on the empty chair. It is important to note that at this point the cafe was largely empty (one table taken with other customers). The 'lady' asked us to move to a table for two as she "may get other customers later who need a table for 3" (note-there were several others, all empty). Her manner was rather frosty, prompting us to ask if 'maybe customers' were more important than 'actual customers'. She did not reply and so we left. As I looked back, I could see her talking about us to the other occupied table. This must be the only business in the land, during a recession, that can afford to turn away actual customers for maybe customers, in a largely empty cafe. What a shame, I used to like that cafe. Never again.

We have been visiting Wayfarers Arcade for many years and always made a beeline for this bijou cafe for it's authentic French atmosphere, curios and delicious food. However, on this occasion we were greatly dissapointed and will not be visiting again or as previously recommending it to our friends. New ownership ? and a coat of paint have done away with the atmosphere....it could be any cafe with a French name. But it is the quality of the previously excellent food that lets it down. The french onion soup was little more than onion gravy, the 3 cheese baguette, was a toasty in disguise with no differentiation in the cheese! The cafe au lait and latte were fine. The piece de la resistance was when I asked for some French dressing and a bottle of Co-op French dressing was given to me!!! On the plus side the staff were pleasant.
