We stayed at Island Cottage for a few days between Christmas and New Year and had a fantastic time. The first impressions from approaching the island across the causeway are mostly of excitement and wonder - especially as the weather was good at the time and hundreds of interesting birds were feeding on the exposed mudflats in the afternoon sun. Because you are in your car, you can get a much closer view of the birds than if you tried to creep up on foot.
Vicky was very welcoming and helpful, and the cottage itself was a good base for our stay. The highlight was the island itself and the freedom to explore that is encouraged by Vicky and her family. When you first crest the sea defence to the north of the island, the beack and the 'breakwater' will take your breath away.
A very special wilderness experience with a comfortable cottage, tucked away in a quiet corner of Essex. Highly recommended for those keen on birds, photography, and just being outdoors.More
