My wife and I thought we would pop out for lunch on a nice quiet (Hot) Wednesday. No kids! No traffic, we thought "Lets try that nice looking pub opposite the canal that we keep driving past on our way to Macclesfield".... What a joke! (well it would have been if we weren't thirsty and hungry).

The car park had 6-8 cars in it so we thought we had timed it quite well! ... only to be told by the solitary barman that "sorry ... food orders will be about 40 minutes"! However, having made the effort to try this particular pub we thought 'Hey Ho' were not in a hurry, lets have a drink while we wait.

.... "Eh Sorry .. we've got no lager either". At this point we stated simultaneously "we'll leave it then" and walked out! (my wife and I don't often make the same decision at the same time without discussing it first!) .. however, this one was unanimous and without discussion.

We wondered how on earth they were in business at all. For all we know it may have changed ownership/management several time in all the years we have been passing it, in which case we regret not visiting it earlier.

Thirsty and hungry we stopped off at the next pub in the direction of where we had come from which was the 'Harrington Arms' in Bosley. I understand this has changed management recently too, but they was doing a far better job of it. Although on his own behind the bar (and obviously stressed with his young children on summer holidays hanging off his ankles!), we were duly served with our choice from the menu and drinks to match.

We mentioned our earlier experience of the 'Pub with no beer' (and clearly no kitchen staff either), and were reminded how difficult it is to keep a pub running nowadays. Agreed! .. However, a successful pub is surely one that relies on 'repeat' business and not passing 'one offs'. Unless the Fools Nook gets itself sorted we will be awaiting the 'Under new management' sign to re-appear. Until then, we will give it another try, because it has such potential.

We called in on a very hot evening having worked our narrowboat through a lot of locks in the heat that day. I was too tired to cook and it was hot so we needed a refreshing drink.
They had no lager! Now the funny thing is that we don't usually drink lager and would often turn away from a pub with a wide range of lagers in favour of a tradtional pub with a selection of hand pulled real ales but that evening my husband could have downed a cool refreshing lager in one. It was not to be! We had a very good main course which was served promptly but when I cam to order dessert there was only one option left. I have no way of knowing if the place had been especially busy earlier in the day or not but that evening there was only one other couple in there so I don't think between us we cleared all the food and drink from their menu!
It is a shame because I suspect where this pub is it could be a little goldmine among passing boaters. The food was actually very good and was served quickly but it had the feel of a place that is lacking decent managment. I suspect if we were in the area again we might try it again but would probably tend to carry on a little further and give somewhere else a try

We had booked to dine at 1.30pm and arrived early. There was another party who had been waiting some time but the butcher hadn't delivered the steaks.
They eventually arrived but this did not seem to result in any cause for serving the clients.
When we were served the food was very nice but we had virtually finished our steaks before the mustard and horseradish arrived.
The outdoor area was very sad and needs serious updating and the general area would benefit from the attention of a gardener.
With so many competitors in the immediate area they will not feel at risk from this restaurant.

This pub is kind off the beaten track, it was very quiet when we went although we were early. Very good food especially the home made chips, the licencee was very welcoming and made you feel at home. The pub really could do with a make over definately smelt damp but you did get use to it.

We used to eat here 3 or 4 times a month before close down, been looking forward to revisiting under new management... Overall very average, however food was not as good as it used to be, not alot of choice and no child menu! Chilli con carne was very plain also had a very small amount of cheese on the burger ( 50p extra )... Lipstick on glass!!.. Other than that filling meal and friendly girl on bar very helpful, will possibly call again as live fairly local.
