We booked Maenan Abbey for a weekend getaway. It's a beautiful building from the outside. A little dated in the dining area but the staircase is beautiful.
Dog friendly which was perfect for us bringing out two pooches. Staff were all lovely and made a fuss of the dogs.
A few resident cats also.

Room was clean and a great size (room 1) with a jacuzzi bath. Jacuzzi bath was in need of some maintenance - the seal was peeling off and the screen was broken so it was a nightmare to turn it on .
Tea / coffee and kettle as well as bottles of water .
We only ate breakfast here so can't comment on the food.
Nice location and a nice garden to sit in with a drink.
Very relaxed atmosphere.

We stayed in The Rhuddlan Room, the whole place seemed a little run down and jacuzzi didn't work at all which was disappointing. The bed was probably the comfiest I've slept in though!
Breakfast was good just perhaps needed extra waiting staff

All the staff were very friendly and helpful when we needed a couple of things sorting out. The room was fine, but tired and in need of either a good deep clean and refreshing or more work and a refurb. It is a really good base to explore lots of North Wales, but given what it is, a bit overpriced. Unfortunately above us we had what seemed to be a very large, heavy footed family that enjoyed running around late at night and early in the morning (I blame the parents for lack of any consideration of others) - given the characterful old building we couldn't expect rooms to be sound proof, but would hope other guests were equally aware of this!

Warm comfortable bar area whilst the meal was prepared,
Shown to our table and everything (from first taste of soup to final sip of coffee)
was par excellence !.

This hotel is bizarre.
The hotel does not reflect its on line photographs and is certainly not 4*.
Rooms are shabby to the point of being unclean with shoddy furnishes and finish.
Hotel appears to lack cleanliness in places and has cats roaming freely throughput the establishment, including bar and dining areas !!!!!!
Lady who served the breakfast was pleasant as was the young man who served in the bar area.
I personally won't stay at the hotel as the extensive caravan park positioned directly behind the hotel look more appealing.
After reading the reviews I agree with the vast majority of the negative comments, which is a shame as it has the potential to be a really great place, which In my opinion it has failed on so many levels........
