“Peaceful, easy feelings”

The directions were so good we had no difficulty finding the mill in the dark after leaving the airport after 1.00am. We found the keys without too much difficulty.

This is a family home, not just set up for rental, therefore much more comfortable to stay in. The place was well equipped for all our needs, with very clear instructions for everything.

For us the peaceful setting, with views of the surrounding country and the sound of birds and goat bells, was ideal. There is plenty of outside space with lizards, geckos and lots of butterflies for company.

Once down the track from the Mill the roads are virtually free from traffic and give easy access to one's choice of coast or inland destination. Sleepy towns and villages dot the countryside, all the properties painted white with blue trim.

We bought and cooked very good, local fresh food and also ate out at the many small restaurants.
We used some of those recommended in our information pack but also just dropped in the places we fancied. It is a pleasure to say we had excellent meals, even when we were just verbally given a choice of food in Portuguese. This was a delight and was the highlight of our eating out experience,
One place offered three courses plus drinks for 6.5 euros each.

The mill is a lovely place for those who like peace and quiet, but would not suit those looking for a lively nightlife.

One of the nicest places we have ever been, ideal for a romantic get-away!

“Impossible not to relax!”

This was the most relaxing holiday possible. The mill is very isolated and absolutely private. We swam naked in the pool, read books in different nooks of the garden and watched birds of prey fly over the surrounding hills.

There is a great selection of DVDs, fast wi-fi and a nice small library. The kitchen is comprehensively outfitted - we made pavlova, massive soups and wok stir fries.

It is about 1.5 hours to the west coast or the Algarve, so we would stay one day at the mill, and then go to the beach every second day. There are really nice little restaurants 15 mins away in various directions.

The owner is incredibly nice and helpful, and his great information book about what to do and where to eat and shop means you don't need to do any research yourself.

Make sure you visit Viennamina the black pig at the bottom of the hill. She comes when you call her.

A unique and wonderful place.

“Definitely one of the best, if not the best, holiday we've ever had”

Mere words cannot describe our wonderful holiday at the Mill on the HIll. From the moment we arrived till the day we departed we relaxed, had fun & forgot the stresses of work. The location is superb, the views are amazing in every direction and the atmosphere is magical.

The beautiful gardens are full of butterflies, bees, birds & bugs (nothing nasty but definitely not usually seen in the UK) and the Mill itself has everything needed for a break from everyday life - comfortable bed, well-equipped kitchen, powerful shower, eco-friendly lighting (solar & wind power plus loads of candles), romantic "grotto" with twinkly lights & passion flowers, and the most breathtaking night skies, sunrises & sunsets.

Despite the peace & tranquillity, the Mill isn't isolated, with a wonderful butcher nearby & two very good supermarkets within easy driving distance. The local restaurants are excellent, although we didn't eat out often, preferring to sit in the grotto or the sun with a bottle of wine, olives, bread & cheese or a barbequed steak & salad.

I could write so much more but suggest you go & find out for yourself – I’m sure you won’t regret it. We have already booked to return next summer & just knowing that we are going back brings a smile to my face!

The owners described it as their little bit of paradise and we cant agree more. It was absolutely stunning. Swimming pool was a welcome sight as we hadn't realised it was there. Simply beautiful and very easy to arrange. Thank you so much for restoring it!
