The cocktail list encompasses the same philosophy as the food and wine menu which is well thought out and delivered, focussing on the seasons. please note on bank holidays we open on sundays until 11:00pm, on mondays 9:00-18:00 and are closed on the tuesday

We’d wanted to eat at the Little Gloster for some time having heard very good things about it from family and friends, and finally got round to it last summer.

It was during Cowes Week so yes it was busy but it was as bad a night as I’ve had in a restaurant for a long time.

We arrived and rather than a polite greeting we heard one staff member say to another “take THEM to the bar” in a deeply unfriendly manner. Things carried on from there, the food tasted ok when it came, but the service was desperately slow and the presentation was awful; my wife ordered spinach on the side, what came was a big pile slopped on her plate in an 80s school dinner style.

When a waiter asked if everything was ok and we said no it started a stand off with the staff for the rest of the evening with one waitress in particular radiating hostility as she walked past.

The final straw came with the bill, which massively overcharged us for wine, charging for two bottles when we’d had two glasses. When my wife went to get it changed she got another hostile response blaming the new till, and the waitress accused her of bullying.

The owner was mortified when we told him what had happened and had the good grace to comp our meal. We were though far from surprised when we read that the restaurant had to close last winter, and reading other reviews about teething troubles and suggesting a lack of staff training suggest that the lessons haven’t been learnt.

Having raved about our visit last August we were really looking forward to our return.

On Easter Saturday lunch we expected the restaurant to be ready and waiting. It was not full. The service was nervous and we waited for ages for our main course.

There had been rumours of a change of ownership - which proved to be unfounded.

The food was well made, delicious but we all felt the portion sizes a little small.

The IOW needs The Little Gloster to maintain its brilliance - which we experienced last year. More training and readiness and hopefully all will be restored.

I had lunch at this restaurant with friends yesterday. I had been told lots about it - and it definitely lived up to expectations!... Food was delicious. Service was polite and friendly without being overpowering. The views are incredible! Visiting is a must if on the Isle of Wight.

Visited for the third time, sadly this visit was not as good as twice before. Maybe as the restaurant has just re opened after the winter break, they experienced teething problems?
Arrived 15 mins early, were asked to sit and wait whilst somebody would serve a drink - 20 mins later still waiting. Finally got our drink and 25 mins later were then asked had our order been taken, which it hadn't. We felt very forgotten about - even though we had booked over a month ago.

Service was incredibly slow at times and we had to wait and ask for our drinks requests each time we fancied another.

Food was nice, cheese board excellent.

We drive from the mainland to visit each time but not sure we would return.

Looks as there was no staff training. We we there on Friday after they reopened on Wednesday and everything just seemed to take forever. We were sat in the reception and our coats were taken, OK nice. Then after 10 minutes of just sitting there we were asked if we would like a drink, no drinks menu was offered so we had to ask for that. 20 minutes later I had to ask if we could sit at our table, there was some issue with that the lady didn't know which was ours although the place was half empty at half 7 on a Friday night. It was very good steak but that took another 20 minutes and was on the rare side, I asked for medium rare and see the photo to judge for yourself on that one. As we didn't have a starter I think it took to long as they weren't busy and the steak was hardly cooked! On bread, olives or any thing like that was offered. It's expensive and has lost its charm since last year maybe due to new management. There are other places doing the same thing and I suggest you go there! Cold poor service is what happened to us and lack of communication thoughout the restaurant team was more than clear. The menu also was boring! A few good looking starters but basic mains and unimaginative desserts. Is that medium rare!?
