“What a lovely place...”
Reviewed 2 October 2015 for a stay in September 2015

The marvelous thing about Il Poggio is that it’s a like super secret retreat where you’d want to sneak off to at a moments notice to get away from it all. And that’s exactly what we did.

We were lucky to know that, whatever property you chose from Summers Lease, you will always leave happy and refreshed. Over 15 years and perhaps 7 or so rentals, this has always been the case and Il Poggio confirmed it still is.

Nestled on a hillside overlook fabulous views of the Umbrian countryside this apartment has all you need for a quiet getaway. The lounge come kitchen diner with it’s wood burner are plenty big enough for 2. The kitchen area is well equipped and the view from the lounge window will stay with us for a very long time.

The rest of the accommodation is excellent; a well appointed bathroom and large bedroom with a very comfortable bed mean that you really can relax in comfort.

Stephie and Sergio are lovely hosts and cannot do enough to make your stay comfortable. We took dinner in the apartment on our first Sunday there and were astounded by the quality. I’d especially suggest that you ask for Nonas pasta, it’s streets ahead of any you get in restaurants, even the “posh” ones in Orvieto.

The apartment is set in large grounds and we spent time having breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus drinks (!) sitting in the sun first in the garden at the “back” of the apartment overlooking the fabulous views, then as the sun moved round, at the front of the apartment, overlooking the fabulous views.

It’s a short walk to Agello where there’s a good delicatessen, butcher supermarket and pharmacy, it takes about 15 – 20 mins to get there but the local shops are well stocked and friendly.

As it’s only a few moments drive to lake Trasimeno we took the chance to revisit old haunts but don’t be deterred to travel further afield, Todi, Orvieto and Monte Falco are all easily reached and well worth visiting.

So, for a relaxing and refreshing secret retreat, do consider I Poggio, thank you Stephie and Sergio, it was great!

“The ideal getaway in Umbria - one of the most beautiful and uncommercialised parts of Italy”
Reviewed 9 November 2014 for a stay in October 2014

Il Poggio was everything we wanted in a holiday. It stands in its own large garden, most of which is an olive grove; is peaceful, relaxing, and surrounded by beautiful countryside. The family were friendly and welcoming, but never intrusive, and the apartment was attractive and comfortable. Agello is near to beautiful Lake Trasimeno and is an ideal centre for exploring the many fascinating towns of Umbria. eg Perugia and Assisi are nearby. When you stay in the apartment, not only do you have two private terraces to use, but you can also walk or sit anywhere in the olive grove. There is a good quality, small supermarket in Agello and bigger shopping centres are within easy reach.
