De Oesterbeurs one of several top-end restaurants in Zeeland that participate in a collective venture to promote the Oosterschelde Kreeft (lobster) at this time of year. The restaurant is located in the centre of the quiet and charming little port of Yerseke in a historical building decorated inside in a contemporary style.
On arrival we received a genuinely friendly greeting, were relieved of our coats and shown to our table. We were instantly absorbed into the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere of the place. The staff were attentive, happy and helpful. When we had reserved by internet I had indicated that my partner had an intolerance to lactose, so were quietly impressed when the person taking our order confirmed this with us without any prompting. We both chose the special 3 course lobster menu devised for the Oosterschelde promotion.
Before the first course was served we each received an "amuse-bouche" to whet our appetite. I received a small seafood mouse and for my partner they had prepared a small mackerel pate with a ball of wasabi sorbet - both truly delicious and prepared with care.
The first course was a lobster salad, with amongst other things, some truffle mayonnaise, kinoa, parmesan and shallot chutney. The main course was based around grilled lobsters served with asparagus, sandfire, pistachios and lime. For each course they had prepared a special, equally exciting, lactose-free alternative for my partner.
The wine card offered a selection of well chosen and interesting, good quality wines from a variety of countries.
Overall the restaurant impressed us by the quality and interesting combinations of flavours, the friendly atmosphere and attentive service. A perfect venue for a quiet and delicious meal as a couple or a small group.
