“Well equipped cabin in peaceful surroundings”

I booked this cabin for a weekend away with four other friends for a hen weekend treat. The cabin exceeded our expectations and the owner has really taken on board any previous concerns and rectified them as we found all the amenities excellent. Lots of hot water for five women, a well equipped kitchen and comfortable living area.
We saw plenty of wildlife from sitting on the deck drinking G&Ts including a young deer and lots of bunnies! Plus, it was lovely say hello to people cycling, walking or running the path running alongside the cabins - albeit on the other side of a hedge.
We were warned about the parking and had no issues with it and found other residents very friendly. We also managed to get a local chinese takeaway to come and deliver to us in the middle of woods at nine o clock at night. We actually clapped when he arrived torch and food in hand!
Zoe was a great host from start to finish and furnished us with lots of useful information about the local area. Had great fun here with the girls but would definitely come back with my family as I think my son would love it.

“Very nice cabin!”
Reviewed 6 November 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We enjoyed our stay in the cabin, felt like home. Amazing cycle track around the lake. Owner gave very useful info about the cabin and activities arount Grafham Lake. Parking is not a problem because you're informed in advance about the wooden stumps lining the path. Thanks Zoe for renting your cabin to us. Dineke and Kees

“More cons than pros”
Reviewed 30 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Pros:
Lovely peaceful location.
Modern kitchen.

Cons:
Damp smelling towels
Tired soft furnishings - see photo of a bedroom curtain which was also torn.
Wireless works best upstairs.
After a long day exploring there is only one hard old sofa for 2 to relax on.
Old pillows with dirty brown dribble marks throughout where the stuffing has separated and lumpy - unhygienic & pictured.
Parking - at night there are no lights along the private road and plenty of unlit posts which measure about 1ft from the ground. Along with tight bends it's easy for the car to be damaged. Although that's not the ultimate responsibility of the lodges owner they should be lit up or covered in reflective stickers.

Of course everyone has different standards, however, regardless of the nightly rate we expect clean workable amenities.

Management Response
26 Oct 2015
Hi Heather
Thanks for your review. I'm so glad you had a peaceful time at Westwood Lodge despite being disappointed by other aspects of your stay. Please accept my apologies. I had no idea some of the bedding had got so tired so thanks for pointing this out. I've replaced this and all the bedding is new now. Since you stayed in September I've also been redecorating the house and there's now a comfy new Habitat sofa and armchair, new curtains and new bedroom and living room furniture. A new carpet is arriving in a few weeks. I've also changed the service I was using for laundry.
If you'd like to come back once the redecoration is complete it would be my pleasure to offer you a discounted rate.
With best wishes
Zoe
