We stayed at the Sportsman Hotel between the 17th and 24th June 2017 and were lucky with sunny, hot weather and warm lake water ideal for swimming.
The lake is across a public path about ten metres from the hotel's front door and the hotel's private beach is sandy with sun beds and parasolls as well as a wooden jetty with steps to access water about one metre deep.
The hotel pool is very clean and big enough for swimming laps so plenty of exercise available if you want it. The gym has a couple of static bikes, a cross trainer, multi gym, press bench and sit up bench which are well maintained and enough to keep you ticking over while away from your usual gym.
Our room was extremely clean and well maintained with air coditioning which we needed in the 35 degree heat.
We had a side room which had views of the lake and breakfast area (room 404). There was ample storage space and plenty of towels ( for the room and beach ) as well as robes and slippers and even a beach bag with the option of flip flops for a few euros -worth buying or taking your own for the stones on the beach and shells on the bottom of the lake.
The food was of a high standard with loads of choice for the buffet breakfast which included excellent fresh coffee delivered to your table. The dinner was a five course affair with 3 choices for the first and second main courses. In case you were wondering a salad buffet, starter and dessert buffet make up the other courses.
On Thursday there is a buffet barbecue served in the garden which we did not enjoy due to the heat, queues and people being allowed to smoke - no such problems in the dining room!
The staff are very friendly and speak reasonable English and cope pretty well with pressures of serving so much food to a full restaurant.
The walks to Bardolino and Garda take about 20 minutes if you're fit and are along a wide, flat path with lots of wildfowl on the lake and lots of interesting campers/locals using the lake on the way. The whole area seems very well cared for with neat public spaces and a civilised atmosphere.
All in all one of the nicest holidays we've had considering all the above.

Room Tip: Lake views are the best if available.

After his usual meticulous research, M booked this hotel for us (via Thomson Holidays) for a stay in late May 2017. We were not disappointed. Our greeting at reception was friendly and efficient. We were allocated room 103 which was a corner room with three Juliet balconies! We had paid for a lake view room and the outlook was stunning. We were half board and really enjoyed the dinner each evening - which was served at your table, apart from the salad bar and the desserts which were buffet style. (Watch out for the individual creme caramels which were to die for.). There was plenty of choice - including fish and vegetarian options. We did not eat all the courses - but that was fine with the friendly and efficient waiting staff. Jacopolo served us each evening - he was lovely! We were lucky to have beautiful weather for our stay so it was breakfast in the garden each morning with, again, those lake views. The breakfast buffet had plenty of choice and there was also a facility for freshly cooked eggs of your choice. The pool area was comfortable and M swam each day. There is also a small beach area with loungers and sun umbrellas. The hotel is located midway between Garda and Bardolino. It takes about 15 minutes to reach the Garda ferry terminal and about 20 mimutes to reach the one at Bardolino. (We walk fairly quickly.) The hotel offers a free trip on a sailing boat which takes about 25 people and wine is served during an approximate three hour cruise. To be recommended. We had a really super week at this peaceful and beautifully located hotel. We could not fault any of the staff. They were all helpful and friendly. They even noted my date of birth from my passport and I was presented with a small cake on my birthday - which occurred during the holiday. We hope to return tomthis truly delightful hotel.

Room Tip: Book a lake view and try and get a room with two or three windows. There are also rooms with terraces and lake views, but hard to come by.

Went over Easter break and stayed 5 nights. Was pleasantly surprised with the free off road parking and the walk to the nearby towns of Bardolino and Garda. Enjoyed the comfortable clean room and breakfast was good with plenty of choice. We tried the restaurant and had a very pleasant meal and went back on another evening. My wife used the pool but found it uncomfortably cold given the time of the season. Overall value is reasonable and the location while out of town gave opportunity for pleasant evening walks on the lakeside path. Would recommend.

This hotel offers friendly comfortable accommodation at reasonable prices. Breakfast is buffet style and offers a wide range which should provide choice for everyone. We found the reception staff helpful and willing. We like to eat out and try local restaurants however used the hotel for dinner one evening and we're not disappointed. The set menu offered five courses with the star being sea bream serviced from the bone at the table. This accompanied with baked potatoes and green beans was excellent and would recommend it. The dining offers you good quality food favourably comparable to the local eateries. Overall great value for money for a hotel set on the lake edge with free off street parking which was great as we had a hired car for our 5 day stay.

I never have high expectations of hotels, have been disappointed too many times, but was pleasantly surprised that the positive reviews that others had left were completely accurate.
This is a very comfortable hotel, well located between Garda & Bardolino, a very pleasant 20 minute walk along the lake's toe path to each town.
The room was of good quality, with balcony, mini bar, gowns & slippers etc and was cleaned everyday.
Breakfast was excellent, everything you can think of, we especially liked the freshly cooked pancakes with Nutella.
The restaurant was high quality and reasonably priced, the 19.95euro set menu was very good value, good selection of local fish & wine.
Very nice cocktail bar.
Nice outdoor pool & private beach by the lake. We went in October so a bit chilly to swim.
The highlight for us was the staff, all very friendly and helpful and highly trained, cannot speak highly enough of them. Their ability to switch from Italian to German to English amazed us and maybe shamed us a little. They would not accept tips, instead leave a tip
at reception when you check out and it is shared among all staff at the end of the season.
Cannot recommend this hotel enough, perfect for a relaxing stay by the lake.

Room Tip: Ask when you book if you want a lake view and a bath (most rooms have showers)
