A wonderful hotel,
a great location twenty minutes walk to Garda and twenty five minutes to Bardolino, nice and flat and ideal if you like walking. The hotel has a minibus that will take you to Bardolino on request, they also provide a 31/2 hour lake tour free of charge. The food is fantastic, five sensibly sized courses and a good choice of wine in the evening and the breakfast was really good with fantastic coffee. The service is excellent and nothing is too much trouble for them. The pool was a little bit on the cold side but the lake was great for swimming and felt quite warm.We had a room with two windows and a side view of the lake. I would like to return and have a lake view with a sit out balcony. I read other reviews on here which were negative and I think they must have gone to a different hotel - everyone we met there had similar opinions to us about the quality of the hotel. Free wifi, pool towels and room safe were a bonus.

Room Tip: Go for a lake view wit ha balcony

We stayed at the Sportsman for eleven nights, from the outside appearance you would not expect it to be as fantastic as it is the pink walls do not do it justice however it is a good landmark!

The staff were exceptional especially Mikaela and Claudio who were both so friendly and kept us supplied with merlot! It was Claudio's first week when we arrived and I would have to say he was really charming, his English was very good and we enjoyed talking to him as he really wanted to improve his English and he also taught us some Italian so thank you.
Mikaela was just aware of everything going on and made time for everyone, she is without doubt an asset to the hotel.

All the other staff were friendly and nothing was to much trouble.

The food was excellent and there was plenty of choice, it is lovely to sit in the dining room and have a relaxing evening meal without being hurried.
We loved sitting in the garden for breakfast which consisted of a lot of choice.

The beach across the road was well kept, our room 201overlooked the beach and lake so great view shame no balcony to sit on however still a great room. We only spent an hour on the beach so that my husband could swim , as there was so much else to see and explore.

We did observe a lot of clients going out to the beach before seven thirty in the morning and placing towels on the sun beds then disappearing! this did not affect us but it did seem totally unnecessary and I know some English holiday makers were not happy with this. I am not sure what the hotel can do about it though.

The hotel puts on a three hour lake trip on a beautiful boat for free and you have complimentary wine on the way out and back. You also get a chance to swim . I would definitely recommend this trip.

Thursday night is BBQ night at the hotel which was very enjoyable.

We went with Thomson and did two excursions Venice by day and night which was a great day with an excellent guide. We also did a lake tour which then gave you the opportunity to see the whole lake and go back in your own time to areas that were of particular interest. Be aware that it is quite expensive on the ferry, we walked as much as possible and were also told by people we met that the bus service was very good.

We would definitely go back to this hotel, there is a great little bar just past the hotel on the right that it is really reasonable for drinks and has really good live music .

Lake Garda is lovely so many interesting places to visit.

Room Tip: Room 201 overlooks the front lake view

We stayed at the Sportsman Hotel between the 17th and 24th June 2017 and were lucky with sunny, hot weather and warm lake water ideal for swimming.
The lake is across a public path about ten metres from the hotel's front door and the hotel's private beach is sandy with sun beds and parasolls as well as a wooden jetty with steps to access water about one metre deep.
The hotel pool is very clean and big enough for swimming laps so plenty of exercise available if you want it. The gym has a couple of static bikes, a cross trainer, multi gym, press bench and sit up bench which are well maintained and enough to keep you ticking over while away from your usual gym.
Our room was extremely clean and well maintained with air coditioning which we needed in the 35 degree heat.
We had a side room which had views of the lake and breakfast area (room 404). There was ample storage space and plenty of towels ( for the room and beach ) as well as robes and slippers and even a beach bag with the option of flip flops for a few euros -worth buying or taking your own for the stones on the beach and shells on the bottom of the lake.
The food was of a high standard with loads of choice for the buffet breakfast which included excellent fresh coffee delivered to your table. The dinner was a five course affair with 3 choices for the first and second main courses. In case you were wondering a salad buffet, starter and dessert buffet make up the other courses.
On Thursday there is a buffet barbecue served in the garden which we did not enjoy due to the heat, queues and people being allowed to smoke - no such problems in the dining room!
The staff are very friendly and speak reasonable English and cope pretty well with pressures of serving so much food to a full restaurant.
The walks to Bardolino and Garda take about 20 minutes if you're fit and are along a wide, flat path with lots of wildfowl on the lake and lots of interesting campers/locals using the lake on the way. The whole area seems very well cared for with neat public spaces and a civilised atmosphere.
All in all one of the nicest holidays we've had considering all the above.

Room Tip: Lake views are the best if available.

After his usual meticulous research, M booked this hotel for us (via Thomson Holidays) for a stay in late May 2017. We were not disappointed. Our greeting at reception was friendly and efficient. We were allocated room 103 which was a corner room with three Juliet balconies! We had paid for a lake view room and the outlook was stunning. We were half board and really enjoyed the dinner each evening - which was served at your table, apart from the salad bar and the desserts which were buffet style. (Watch out for the individual creme caramels which were to die for.). There was plenty of choice - including fish and vegetarian options. We did not eat all the courses - but that was fine with the friendly and efficient waiting staff. Jacopolo served us each evening - he was lovely! We were lucky to have beautiful weather for our stay so it was breakfast in the garden each morning with, again, those lake views. The breakfast buffet had plenty of choice and there was also a facility for freshly cooked eggs of your choice. The pool area was comfortable and M swam each day. There is also a small beach area with loungers and sun umbrellas. The hotel is located midway between Garda and Bardolino. It takes about 15 minutes to reach the Garda ferry terminal and about 20 mimutes to reach the one at Bardolino. (We walk fairly quickly.) The hotel offers a free trip on a sailing boat which takes about 25 people and wine is served during an approximate three hour cruise. To be recommended. We had a really super week at this peaceful and beautifully located hotel. We could not fault any of the staff. They were all helpful and friendly. They even noted my date of birth from my passport and I was presented with a small cake on my birthday - which occurred during the holiday. We hope to return tomthis truly delightful hotel.

Room Tip: Book a lake view and try and get a room with two or three windows. There are also rooms with terrac...

Went over Easter break and stayed 5 nights. Was pleasantly surprised with the free off road parking and the walk to the nearby towns of Bardolino and Garda. Enjoyed the comfortable clean room and breakfast was good with plenty of choice. We tried the restaurant and had a very pleasant meal and went back on another evening. My wife used the pool but found it uncomfortably cold given the time of the season. Overall value is reasonable and the location while out of town gave opportunity for pleasant evening walks on the lakeside path. Would recommend.
