The most helpful thing I can say about this grand old lady is that it’s due to close for a year in the next 12 months for a complete renovation and upgrade reducing the number of rooms from 53 to 40. Given the sheer size of the building this suggests it will become very grand indeed because it’s already got oceans of space everywhere in all the public rooms and outdoor terraces to the ultrawide corridors and staircases. In view of this it would be churlish to pick over its current limitations which are a function of age and lack of past investment in upgrading the bedrooms. Ours was a superior lake view room whose inadequacies make me wonder what a standard room must be like. To say the room was disappointing would be a significant understatement. But there’s no doubting the courtesy of the professional, helpful and friendly staff with the notable exception of what I think was the Restaurant Manager who prowled around with a permanent look of misery on his face. The opposite must be said of the front desk staff. It’s a long time since I was last given such a warm and effusive farewell complete with smiles and handshakes. Notable benefits before the planned renovations are the extensive car parking available for residents – in serious short supply anywhere around Lake Como – and the exceptionally large swimming pool at the rear of the hotel in beautiful garden surroundings which offers a haven of peace and comfort on the quality Allibert loungers provided.

We spent a week here at the end of August after a break of one or two years. it was disappointing that the management does not keep records of who stays, becasue we have been ther many times and recognised all the familiar faces. we were not recognised however. never mind. more importatntly there are things that have improved since our last stay and things that could still be better.
Breakfast is much better. Fresh fruit, fresh fruit juice, better bread, better cold meats and cheeses. Well done. but no system for serving coffee - the waiting time was looong and haphazard, though not unpleasant.
the bathrooms have improved - apart from the lighting. and why a brown colour scheme?
Restaurant prices prohibitively expensive when a short walk away you have choice and valuel
I love Menaggio and will go back, but I always wish you could put the grand back into the hotel. There's always a little bit of disappointment.

Large and tidy room. Clean and nice bathroom with a tub. Very frienly personnel.
The breakfast was very good.
The location by the ferry harbour is very convenient. Menaggio town center and pier walk starts at the hotel.

Room Tip: Lake view is a must!

We have just spent a week here in a superior lake view room which wasn't cheap, and only on B and B.
The room was a good size with large bed and plenty of storage, nice bathroom, but no proper shower, just a handheld over the whirlpool bath with no curtain, so showering was tricky and not really acceptable for this price.
The bed was rock hard and I like a firm one but I can see why people moan about them. The pillows were dreadful, worst I've ever had.
A large fully opening pair of windows showcased the fantastic view of the lake and surrounding hills and mountains, with two comfy chairs, you could sit in comfort and see everything, so was actually as good as a balcony. This was what we paid for and we did enjoy the elevated position from the second floor.
The staff were professional but lacking warmth, except the doormen who were lovely.
The breakfast was fine, with decent choice and freshly squeezed orange juice, though the staff were hopeless at getting teas and coffees, with no real organisation, and long waits even when not busy, not very friendly either apart from the young girls.
The hotel was full of British pensioners on tours, and I would love to know what they paid compared to us, as I have a feeling we were ripped off in comparison, as Riviera travel who they were with isn't an expensive tour company.
Restaurant food was very good, but expensive. We only ate there once, as we were rushed thru with 4 courses in an hour, no time to relax and linger. No good for an expensive meal, so they lost out on us eating there again.
The pool and surroundings were pleasant and we enjoyed the loungers whilst looking out on the lake. Pool was freezing though.
So, a lovely hotel, but too expensive for the service provided, though the views justified our visit, and we did enjoy our stay.

I stayed at this hotel for four nights this past sept. It is a large hotel with a beautiful view of lake como and a stunning swimming pool right on the lake.

The ferries are right up the street which can take you from Menaggio to Bellagio and all the other towns along the lake, very convenient location!

The downside is that the rooms are old and the bed was two twins (very hard mattress) pushed together to make a king.
The bathroom lighting was awful and design was very outdated

The views and location made up for this though
