“Perfect base to explore the hill towns of Tuscany”
Reviewed 10 January 2015 for a stay in January 2015

My wife and I are coming to the end of our week at the 13th Century "Tuscan Tower" two bedroom, two bathroom apartment in Montefollonico.

We booked this from Australia, influenced strongly by the excellent reviews on TripAdvisor. We were certainly not disappointed. Before we came, we were given a comprehensive guide to the town, the apartment and the surrounding area by the owner, John, who is based in the USA.

Driving down from Venice, our sat nav guided us directly to the outside of the apartment with one small difficulty.... the laneway leading up to the apartment is closed off due to building works on a house near the turn off. However, we reversed down the narrow lane and after seeking directions from a local, we were there. There is parking outside, but I guess in summer you have to obey the "Permit Only" edict and park outside the village. This is not really that far.

The apartment itself is on the second floor of a 13th century building. After getting through the three locked doors once we retrieved the keys, the apartment opens to a small hallway, then a large kitchen, lounge/dining room, the master bedroom, great bathroom through an archway, and the door next to the well-equipped laundry leading to the Tower. From the tower can be seen the most beautiful and amazing views of the Tuscan hill towns and countryside. You can sit there for hours taking in the vista.

The apartment is fully equipped, John the owner keeps in contact to ensure you are happy and to deal with any problems (our gas ran out and was fixed within hours with sincere apologies).
Decor is magnificent with stone tiled floor, original beamed ceilings, comfortable furnishings, a well equipped and modern kitchen and modern bathrooms. Excellent WiFi (with a ridiculously complicated password) is free and we found it reliable. Towels were large and soft.

We love this place!

What is missing...... I like the idea that there is no TV as it would spoil the atmosphere and relaxation from this "retreat". I guess a microwave would be nice.

Great restaurants in the village, Montepulciano is 20 minutes away, Pienza about the same, Monticello a bit further, Siena is an hour away and Florence is 90 minutes on the autostrada.

I cannot recommend this place more highly.

Thanks so much for the glowing review. We will shorten that wifi password. And glad you feel the same way about not having a TV. There is no TV channel in the world that has a better show than the view from the Torre!

“Great apartment, lovely town and the best views you'll ever get”

First time in Tuscany for 20th wedding anniversary trip and have fallen in love with the place. John and Wendy have a great apartment, make the process of booking very easy and give a lot of good advice on where to visit, eat etc. Montefollonico is a lovely, quiet town with some very good restaurants and also a good base to explore the area.

We arrived in the late and in the dark, thought what a pretty town and apartment, woke up and then WOW !!! The views from the windows are great, and then you get to the Tower - 360 degree view to die for.

So thanks John and Wendy, loved the apartment and appreciated all your advice - we'll be back :)
