The venue is nice and personnel are friendly but the menu is very limited, nothing green whatsoever (can’t imagine how they could be called vegetarian friendly).
So they kindly offered something outside the menu, only to take advantage and charge me 12 euro for a tiny dish of smashed potatoes......... outrageous!
After complaining they put it down to 10 euro, which still made no sense compared to the menu prices.

Buonasera,

As a humble critic, wine lover and food aficionado I must commend my recent experience at C’era Una Volta...

To start, the serviceable staff is outstanding, as we were received with a nice glass of Prosecco, a smile, in this beautiful, charming family restaurant. The food carefully was catered to specific client requests. The owner Giovanni Pezzella couldn’t have been nicer; a wine connoisseur pairing his exquisite creations in the family kitchen with a flair for the ultra refined of the best food establishment in the world.

As Americans we are accustomed to expect great food and service; and C’era Una Volta surely delivers in every aspect of the word “outstanding” but the value received for the quality and excellence of the overal experience makes my visit to this restaurant one that I will never forget...!

Excellent choice for lunch or dinner in Montepulciano. The location is slightly outside of the city wall, about a five minute walk. We found the quality of food to be excellent, both pastas and second course meats. The staff was excellent and friendly, also great house wine. The restaurant was very charming inside and also has a nice view outside. Highly recommended.

My husband and I were late arriving to the restaurant and just before closing wanting a quick meal. The staff was courteous and the food was amazing. We got to watch the hand made pasta being rolled and weighed right in front of us. Simply a wonderful experience!

A lovely restaurant inside and out, offering a variety of food. We were towards the end of the lunchtime, and there were only a handful of tables being served, so it was relatively quiet. The wood pizza oven was not in operation, so we chose 2 pasta dishes, and we noticed several grilled meat dishes that looked good being served at another table. The gnocchi was delicious. Perfectly fresh and light potato gnocchi served with a peppery meat ragu (surprisingly not a tomato-based sauce). I would order this dish again, it was that good, and perfectly proportioned for a lunchtime meal. Our other dish, a tagliatelle with tomatoes, mozzarella and basil was also well made, but the gnocchi was the more satisfying of the two. Well worth another try out, especially for larger groups as there is ample space to accommodate. Very well priced, with a large selection of wines plus a full bar. Will have to come back to try to pizza too.
