I am perplexed that people A. refer to this as a simple B&B - though I suppose strictly technically it is as it doesn't have a restaurant, but really the Puccini's sense of grandeur and luxury lift it way above the B&B market .... and doubly perplexed that a previous reviewer referred to it as 'very small' .... as it is positively gargantuan, with a massive central stone staircase and public sitting rooms the like of which you rarely see even in 5-star hotels.

We booked one night and ended up staying three .... almost purely on account of the hotel.

Centrally located in the beautiful, and oft-overlooked walled town of Pistoia, the Puccini is a converted palazzo which has been done with astonishing good taste ..... understated and luxurious.

Our room was enormous - maybe 25 foot square - with slate coloured walls and floors, a huge comfortable bed, a spare single bed, modern tables and chairs for relaxing, a fridge, a safe, mood lighting and a 2 roomed bathroom area, also wonderfully appointed and decorated with expensive wall and floor tiles.

We were also offered the use of a separate sitting room, complete with original frescoes on the cieling .... now when was the last time you had that?

The lady in charge - I assume Ms Chiara who has been written about before - could not have been kinder, recommending restaurants and places to see and to eat with great patience.

They allowed our dog to stay in our room as well.

Really the whole experience was wonderful. A great place to stay to see the surrounding town, countryside and of course perfectly located for day trip into Florence, some 30 minutes away by car.

But here's a warning if you're driving -

DONT ... DONT ... dont leave you car parked in the central area overnight Tuesday to Wednesday (market day)

It WILL be towed away (as mine was!) and it will cost you £120 ($180) and ages of mega-hassle at the chaotic Police station to get it back.

I happen to speak Italian which helps ... but also by utter chance bumped into the ex mayor of Pistoia (!!) who took pity on me and therefore helped me get it back for me in 40 minutes, but otherwise it would probably have taken all day!

You have been warned ! :-)

Room Tip: DONT ... DONT ... dont leave you car parked in the central area overnight Tuesday to Wednesday (market day)

I normally don't like B&Bs, but this one is really good. Signora Chiara (the manager) is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are big, clean and decorated with frescoes, and the place is a 2 min ealk away from the central duomo square. If you do don't know where to eat, speak to Chiara and she will beable to recommend you the best that Pistoia hasto offer.
I spent a month there on business, and I'm waiting to go back with my girlfriend to show her this little hidden gem in Tuscany.
The only weakness of the resideenza is that the doors are a bit thin and you can hear your neighbours a bit too much.

This is a very small B&B type hotel located in Pistoia, Italy which only has about 10 rooms, but don't let the small size fool you into thinking its not a fantastic place to stay. The small size makes the operators of the hotel very helpful and willing to go the extra mile to help you with their stay. From picking you up in the middle of town if you get lost on the way from the train station, to giving you restaurant suggestions, they are extremely helpful. Add in the fact that a room for one night is only 80 euros, and this is a great steal. Also the operators speak great English!

I found the hotel excellent, the reception at our sign-in was easy, and informative. (we were given a number of restaurants to choose from. which was very helpful) The rooms were very comfortable, clean, and nicely decorated.
The only one problem we had, was finding the hotel. The directions are hard to use, and the street was a narrow side street. We spend an hour looking for the street and/or a sign. They have only one sign of the establishment, near a side door, on the side street. Although, it was well worth the effort.

I stayed in Pistoia for the fabulous Blues festival & loved this hotel - the building has been converted with considerable style & flair, is immaculately clean & has some absolutely beautiful art work in the communal areas. My double room was spacious, with gorgeous high ceilings & very efficient air conditioning - essential in the sweltering July heat. The owner is a delightful lady, & her equally charming son collected me from the station, which was much appreciated after a boiling evening train journey from Pisa - they also kindly recommended & booked a gorgeous local restaurant for me. Pistoia is a lovely spot & the hotel is centrally located, so you can stroll to the excellent selection of restaurants & bars, all very reasonably priced & a terrific market too. I will definitely be back & will be returning to Puccini!
