Come by boat, or come on foot...but do find this restaurant! Tucked away on the far side of Spiaggia Frontone, the restaurant has little nooks and crannies perfect for private dining, or take a table in the middle for people watching.
Our merry band of friends voted Solo a Vela as having the best alici marinati on the island...and that's saying something!
While the dishes are classic instead of innovative, they are perfectly executed. Try the pasta with fresh anchovies, and the salty fish balls. Relax, enjoy...you are on holiday!

We went there for apero willing stay also for dinner, but we changed our mind right after arrived. Unprofessional service, poor quality cocktails and high prices (100,00 euro for 1 Prosecco bottle!). Many thanks to Mother Nature for the amazing location and it's for sure "exotic" getting this club by boat (there's no road to go there) but nothing more to remember.

You get to the restaurant by boat, a service that they provide, and then you enter the restaurant directly from the water front. It is truly magical and we were lucky enough to sit on one of the 2 tables that has the view of the water and the other side of the island. They offer a set menu and from the starter to the desert there is nothing to complain about. The atmosphere is chilled and romantic at the same time. Definitely an experience not to miss when in Ponza.

My husband and I and a couple of friends went here in July 2011. 2 spoilt italian husbands (as far as food goes) and we - a kiwi and an american who know the world and all 4 of us widely travelled. We had trouble finding it as the internet telephone number is wrong. Tel no is: ----------- This small and original restaurant excels in it's uniqueness...it's in a grotto on the seashore. I felt like I was at Bloody Mary's restaurant on Borabora, or Petit St. Martin in the Grenadines. They will come and pick you up with a dinghy at the dock in Ponza or from your yacht as you may have trouble finding it otherwise - it only has access via sea which keeps it exclusive...located amongst the rocks at the beach of Frontone which is also a safe anchor for boats.
Going from Ponza port takes around 10 mins. Once there you step off onto the rocks and are led to the sand floor setting...... maybe it can take around 20 persons, for lunch or dinner. Call them for an appointment.
Meal : cooked before our eyes - it's like we are all in a hideaway cove, with distant views of Ponza township - they have a fixed menu. Starting with appetisers like raw tuna carpaccio with rocket; sizzling fried calamari and prawns,; grilled swordfish skewers; followed by pasta: paccheri with ricciola (another precious fish found locally) sauce.
The main course to follow was grilled red prawns.
Desert was fresh cut tropical fruits.
We accompanied our meal witha couple of chilled bottles of Satrico wine - i didnt check the winelist but we got to have a wine that we like and know .
Price for 4 of us was around €200 which we think was reasonable.
If you like super fresh ingredients, healthily cooked and are not looking to stuff yourselves or choose what you want, the combination of the ambience and the food plus the peacefulness of the place, is fantastic. They had some background music - a mix of various styles - we thought they could have chosen music a little more romantic like soft jazz or brasiliero style and even some italian mandolin music - why not?!
We felt that they could have served only 2 appetisers before the pasta and the swordfish skewer together with the prawn main course - to make a balanced series of pauses between courses, mainly.
But overall - well, you had to force yourself to believe you were in a little italian island without the mid summer caos of tourists - and not Borabora or Grenadines! Fabulous.
