Seven Hostel

I stayed at the Seven as it had decent reviews.. Infact better than the original hotel i booked
It was alright, not brilliant but not awful.
I had a private double with an ensuite. Room was bright, clean and the bathroom was modern, shower was powerful and hot!
I had the bonus of a balcony with a view of the mountain.
Hard bed with incredibly thin pillows-not particularly comfy!
Wi-Fi worked well.
The bells from the church next door are irritating.
Food was OK, but the bar and restaurant were not very busy and had no atmosphere
Breakfast was typical Italian pastry and coffee.
Staff were friendly.

I had a stay here for 2 nights and I will say that I expected more out this hostel.

- First of all this hostel is located far from the port 5-6 kms away and 2-3 kms from Railways Station. It is located on exactly the opposite site of major attractions of the city.
- If you are english speaking then you will face communication issues at the reception.
- Check-In time is too late at 3.00 pm.
- If you got a terrace room then you will get very low or no wifi / internet access.
- Buffet breakfast included and the food ordered in the bar was not too good. Even got uncooked pasta once.
- Old style hostel with a terrible & slow lift. You just have to hold the button until you reach your floor.

- An excellent view from terrace.
- A beach nearby.

I did not enjoy my stay at this hostel. I was enticed by the photos on Hostel World and on here but in peak season the terrace looked nothing like that! It was dirty, tired furniture and lots of rubbish, not a relaxing space at all. I stayed for 3 nights and it was the same the whole time, so not just a bad day!

Staff: Had to be pushed for any information, it was not forthcoming at all.

Atmosphere: Very little. There is a nice terrace space on the ground floor but it did not encourage socialising. The bar and restaurant (restaurant only open 6pm-10pm and bar not much later) are expensive and despite the fact the hostel was near-full there was no atmosphere, it was empty the majority of the time. They are very clear through sign overkill that no food or drink be taken anywhere else (including the roof terrace) too.

Bedrooms: One of the most uncomfortable mattresses I have slept on in a hostel. The showers have see through glass so people can see you showering. The water does not drain properly. The key cards for almost everyone in my room, including myself, did not work properly so people had to rely on others being in to let them in.

You are EVICTED from rooms between 10am and 3pm, bare this in mind.

Services: Towel rental, locks and laundry are very expensive.

Location: Pretty good as long as you don't want to stay in Sorrento late. The train gets there in under 10 minutes and there is a train every half hour, but the last train back to Sant Agnello leaves at 9.30. There is a bus that runs a bit later. There is very little in Sant Agnello itself; a beach and a handful of mediocre restaurants.

This hostel is older and dirtier than the pictures on their website. The staff were friendly but don't help with heavy bags. Cleaners didn't enter room for 10 days. When aircon reaches set temperature it turns off and doesn't turn back on! Nights were sweaty and I had to get out of bed hourly to turn it back on. Shower doors are clear glass so everyone sees you nude, and you see others nude. Bar has potential but needs activities.

This is the most expensive hostel I've ever stayed at. Pushing 40euro once you've got a towel and a lock. To be fair the place is big, modern, well designed and relatively (key word) clean. They offer an above average breakfast for a hostel. But for this price, I find the value seriously lacking. The place is devoid of personality and seems to be geared solely to make money. Understand hostels are a business like anything else, but perhaps treating people more as guests than customers would be a good start.
