We went here based on a friend's recommendation, and we were very very happy to take it.
Sandro makes magic in the kitchen with the freshest seafood and produce you will ever be served, going daily to get the fish from the fishmongers.
He serves the most straight forward Italian food in a magnificently simple way, the best to appreciate the richness in flavor.
Would go back just for eating here again. Going on a Friday and Saturday will give you a more extensive experience since the menu is shorter the rest of the week.

"The most Italian restaurant we have been to", said my wife after our dinner in this lovely, little place. And her comment came following a week spent in Rome, where we ate at relatively upper end places.

Osteria le Scalette serves superbly fresh sea food (fish, squid, calmari, all different kinds of shell-occypying-stuff). To my personal disappointment, actual fish constitute a minor part of food offered (I happily avoid the squishy-shelly stuff).

Mind you, the place has no fixed menu (maybe apart from some off-the-shelf antipasti, or starters for those unaccustomed to Italian way of saying it).. A day's menu includes 4-5 dishes (antipasti and one or two kinds of primo and secundo), deserts (haven't tried) and beverages.

Prices are very reasonable. And portions are large. The staff are very friendly and speak some English. Service time may be an issue for those in a hurry. This is a very-slow-food-place (for reference: it took us 20 minutes to get the starter and another 30 minutes between a kind lady cleared our table from the starter plates and the time when our main courses arrived).

Life starts at 9pm here and the place quickly fills up with a cheerful crowd of locals and tourists (which explains slow service, as the ratio of staff to guests is in the high teens).

Overall - if you're there, you'll bound to enjoy it a lot!
