We received a night at the hotel as an anniversary present and we were looking forward to seeing all the glass. Upon arrival at the hotel, the receptionist mentioned that this was an anniversary gift which was nice. The hotel had some very nice art pieces that were interesting to look at on the way to your room. The room itself was okay. It didn't scream luxury but the bed was comfortable and there were some nice art pieces there too. I did appreciate having a Nespresso in the room. The pool area was very nice, along with the whirlpool, sauna and steam room, as well as a nice fire lit room where one could sit and relax. We did not eat in either of the main restaurants as the price was very steep and we weren't really impressed with the menu. We did eat at the Glass Bar. It was very quiet. The tables and chairs were not really comfortable for eating and when we got our chicken caesar salad and shrimp sandwich, they weren't very tasty .. but they were edible. There is not much to do in Kosta after store hours so we went for coffee and then to our room. The breakfast buffet was set up in the fancy restaurant. I am doubly glad that we did not eat there. It was an average looking restaurant. It also did not really give off the fancy restaurant vibe. The meal was average. Regular Swedish fare, including bacon and eggs. The eggs (omelette) was not cooked well. But at least there was enough to fill you up.
Up until checking out everything was okay. Then ... we opted to check out with reception instead of just leaving our key because we had used the minbar and ate at the Glass Bar. So we noticed it seemed a little steep for just the food we ate. The receptionist tried to explain that the one who booked the room for us had not paid in full! Imagine our shock to think that we received a gift that was only partially paid for. Well, we thought this was strange so we called the person who had arranged the gift and she said she paid in full. (of course). So we went back to the receptionist and told her it had been fully paid. Then she said that it was because we had changed our dates. (This we did but still a Friday/Saturday) So I said that no one had advised us when I changed the dates that there would be an extra charge, or I would not have booked that night. The receptionist then said that we would not have received that information because it was a gift. That also didn't make sense. I told her that the gift-giver also never was advised or received a new invoice. She would still not refund our money (890 SEK/91€). The only offer that we got after was two extra glasses. (The first pair was a promotion for booking online). Not only did none of this make any sense at all, the receptionist was so condescending and would not admit that someone had dropped the ball on their end. She admitted to the gift giver over the phone, who also called to try to fix this, that they had actually forgotten to advise that there would be an extra charge! But still would not give a refund. Eventually the same day after having received a call from my brother in law did they contact us to apologize and say that the money would be refunded. All of this undid any relaxation we had enjoyed during our stay. And her attitude was unbelievable. I don't get upset if there is a problem, I get upset when the problem is handled with a bad attitude and treating me like I am in the wrong and I do not know what I am talking about. I am in customer service, and I know the customer is NOT always right, but you should always treat them with respect, not as if you are better than they are. All in all, this hotel was not worth the way we got treated. There should be better training on how to solve customer issues with more grace and honesty. If not for the bad experience that we had upon checking out the review would have been much more positive, but all the little things you could overlook before come bubbling up when you finish off with such a bad feeling. I would not go back here again.

Kosta, the first of the world-famous glassworks, was founded in 1742 by Anders Kostkull and Georg Bogislaus Staël von Holstein – hence the name: Kos-sta. Beautiful hand-made glass objects draw visitors from around the world, as well as the opportunity of watching the master craftsmen and women at work in their hytta (blowing room.)

In Kosta there are large warehouse-styled “outlets” for the purchase of exquisite creations from the Kosta and Orefors glassworks.

There is also an exhibition hall which displays both old and new designs, and an excellent Kosta Café serving lunches and fresh bakes, which include the local speciality, Småland ostkaka (cheese cake.)

Another focal point in Kosta, apart from the glassworks and outlets, is the Kosta Boda Art Hotel with its magnificent Spa. Here visitors can enjoy heated pools and Jacuzzis, both indoors and out, a small well-equipped gym, a studio for classes such as chi-gong, Pilates and yoga, and a full range of massages and body treatments. The pool area is softly illuminated with candles, and relaxing music plays in the background. There are a sauna and a steam room, and a lounge with a subtle gas fireplace in which to relax.

Upstairs in the main hotel are a large glass-roofed lounge, the Restaurant Linnea, and the Brasserie by EDz which has an open fireplace in the centre.

The entire hotel is decorated with exquisite works of glass art; being there is like being within a work of art.
But the dénouement is the celebrated Glass Bar, a fantastical space made entirely of cobalt blue glass, and decorated with sea-themed glass ornamentation. Delicate glass air balloons, created by Kjell Engman, are suspended from the ceiling. Inside, one has the sensation of being under water!

Room Tip: Away from the restaurant and bar

A great place to stay at . Pleasant staff ,clean and tidy .Very good for families and dogs.
All famous glass-artists have got their own area to decorate and design inside the Hotel which make it very special. A daily guided trip is recommended and will bring good knowledge and understanding.
The breakfast buffe is of highest standard and quality .Do not miss out.!
Special stars to the reception staff . ... our dog liked then a lot.

Room Tip: All rooms good ,not a heavy traffic place . For privacy I would go for the rooms towards big lawn.

Our Swedish friends hosted us at this contemporary hotel housing fine glass art. The facilities were great - we really enjoyed the pool which was part indoors with glass art encapsulated at the bottom and partly outside. The bar was also very funky. We enjoyed blowing our own glass momentos at a nearby studio.

Our Swedish relatives suggested we spend a night here during our visit with them at Midsommer. We had been to the glass shops and factory a number of years ago, but the hotel is new since then. The glass on display, both in the public areas and in the rooms, was prenominal! Our room had been decorated by Ulrica Hydman-Vallien and contained a number of her glass art pieces. An incredible hotel with great staff people. We've never seen anything else like it anywhere.

Room Tip: You can pick rooms by the artist who's work is featured on that floor.
