“Excellent retreat.”
Reviewed 26 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We stayed here for two weeks, it was a perfect villa so many say their kitchens are fully equipped but are not, this one is; the flattened screens on the ground floor speed and Windows gives good air flow minus bugs, WiFi was good, entertainment system could be better no Sat channels at all so take enough DVD s there are some there but also a few empty cases worth bearing in mind as the nearest town is around a 10 minute drive away apart from that the house it self has been modernised perfectly the bedrooms good sizes, off road parking and REALLY quite, the locals are friendly and try to converse, loved the welcome pack, there is also a very good information pack left by the owners giving you directions to attractions it was a lot easier to find than I thought it would be again owners directions spot on and the key safe what a great idea no waiting around for "someone" you don't know to hand them over all in all well recommended a perfect retreat, never did find the bar b Que though.

“Absolutely Perfect”
Reviewed 9 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

What a delightfully out of the way spot, very comfortable little house with plenty of room for four people. The kitchen was very well appointed with plenty of equipment, some of which we had no idea what they were for. Everything worked and we were especially grateful for the really good espresso maker. A huge fridge and good cooking area. The sitting and dining area was very comfortable, and no TV - what a delight. The WiFi kept us up to date with things and meant the children were usually amused. Very comfortable beds, very good welcome basket, good showers, clean and tidy. A very nice outside area, we could have done with another two sun beds, but a nice shady place to eat. We found that most restaurants were not open in the evenings in the local area, but there was one popular one just to the north about 6 miles away on the N334. The intermarche in Mortagua was very well stocked and easy to find. The plunge pool was bigger than expected and very useful in the heat of the day. Wonderful walks in the forest behind the property, a bit too much eucalyptus for my liking. Good local wine varieties from the Dao region, especially encruzado and barraida. We loved it!

Jonathan - thank you for your lovely review! We are delighted that you and your family loved the house and area, and agree about the lovely forest walks, though we quite like the smell of eucalyptus! We know the restaurant you mention - the owners are really friendly, and the food is fresh and very traditionally Portuguese - otherwise the restaurants in Mortagua are usually open, though a little later than English restaurants. Thank you also for the tips about good Portuguese wine - now we feel obliged to see if we agree with you!! We hope that you will come again any time! Marta

“Casa do Limao - Simply the Best!”
Reviewed 5 April 2014 for a stay in March 2014

Casa do Limao is a hidden gem. We stayed in the house early March and it provided all the comfort and modern conveniences we needed to relax and unwind within a peaceful country setting - a small rural hamlet where the neighbours tend to the vines and work in the fields every day. We ate out on the terrace each morning and in the evening, because it was still a bit chilly, used the log fire - lovely!. Easy access by car to many local historical towns and villages and no shortage of ideas on where to go because of the extensive information provided by the owner. The welcome basket of food and drink we arrived too was a very nice touch and an indication of the thought and attention the owners have given to both the house and those that wish to come and stay. Thank you again, Marta.

“Beautiful, peaceful Rustic Portugese retreat - heaven!”
Reviewed 12 March 2014 for a stay in March 2014

I had good email correspondence with the owner mail prior to our stay the communications were lovely - we were given excellent directions to Casa de Lima
On arrival there was a welcome basket with essentials such as milk, coffee, tea, sugar, & a few home comforts, also supplied are washing up liquids/powder, kitchen roll, & other sundries, from experience I know that not all holiday rental owners are this considerate.
The house is a beautiful rustic Portuguese cottage that has been renovated in a sympathetic & beautiful way, with very high workmanship & quality materials. It has been furnished to a very high st&ard with close eye to detail. The furnishing are a mix of some modern & some rustic, keeping the Portuguese charm yet practical. We were very impressed by the variety & quality of the furnishings & fittings & there were really thoughtful items like shopping bags, torch & umbrella’s for guests to use.
There is an excellent selection of information at the house about the surrounding area. General info in a folder including directions, telephone numbers & opening hours for the local supermarkets, information about the markets in the area, doctors, dentists & all of the other general info you might need in an emergency. There is a good selection of information leaflets about attractions & things to do in the area - all very useful!
As we were staying the in the “winter” the fire needed to be lit for the hot water system – this was great & gave you piping hot water – which was plentiful. There were a great supply of dry logs in the barn, & the fire lit easily.
In the kitchen there is an excellent variety of utensils of just about anything & everything you could wish for. I was in seventh heaven when I discovered the electric fruit squeezer (not a juicer – but an electric orange squeezer – great for the beautiful oranges
The bathrooms are both of very high standard all fittings are of high quality, the beds are great & the bedding good quality cotton, very comfy, you get a great night’s sleep.
There’s a BBQ that can be used on the patio - we used it in March. The weather was lovely with beautiful views of the surrounding Pine & Eucalyptus woods & a few farms. It is a very peaceful, beautiful village setting. The main village of Mortugua has a selection of Supermarkets & shops it is about 15 minutes drive from the house.
If you are looking for a tranquil haven in rustic Portugal – seriously consider staying here, it was lovely. Highly recommend!

“Lovely house, beautiful location”
Reviewed 9 March 2014 for a stay in February 2014

My boyfriend and I have just stayed at Casa do Limao for a week. The house itself is lovely – traditional to look at, but inside modernised and re-configured to become comfortable three bedroomed accommodation. It is really well equipped, especially for those who want to balance ‘eating in’ with ‘eating out’. We really used the house as a base for exploring the area, but I imagine the pretty and private courtyard area would be a real asset in the summer time. Within a short distance of the house we discovered a walk leading to a beautiful waterfall, and further afield, a great little market at Santa Comba Dao on a Wednesday morning complete with the piri-piri chicken experience we had been told about! But the high spot for us was a day trip to the Serra da Estrela mountains – about 45 minutes away from the house. The owners had recommended it – as we climbed the well maintained roads to the summit we could stop and look at the incredible views from various vantage points, and the snow at the top was literally the icing on the cake – deep, and largely untouched after a recent fall; the roads were cleared and gritted, so access was easy. I loved our first time in Portugal and would like to come again, perhaps in a different season to see what else it has to offer!
