I have to admit I was nervous about staying at this hotel after reading previous reviews but thankfully was pleasantly surprised.

Pros: The hotel has a lovely intimate feel; and everyone we encountered who worked there were extremely friendly and helpful (contrary to previous comments); the room we stayed in was a good size and had a lovely modern bathroom; you could park right outside the hotel on the street free of charge; and the location of the hotel was perfect - close to the medival town but just far enough away that the levels of noise were at a minimum.

Cons: breakfast on offer was poor - the hotel itself only offers a limited continental breakfast and the hot buffet breakfast that was offerred at the sister hotel was equally limited. Its not a major problem due to the proximity of the town with its numerous restaurants though.

We would definitely stay at this hotel again. A very relaxing stay and nearly everything that we wanted.

If you look at the photos posted by this hotel you would think that its elegant and beatiful. Here are a few facts: There is NO fitness room, opening the door labeled 'fitness' we saw a pile of pillows with a mattress on the floor and a big folding screen hiding a few fitness machines from site. A horrible putrid smelly basement space that can hardly fit three people.
Fact number 2: The rooms are big but its not always in the size of the room that a hotel qualifies for a 5 star.

Truly the best I can describe this hotel is a three star. They share the pool with their next door 4 star, there is no food available, I have no idea what they mean by spa, The hot tub is a plastic one surrounded by moldy glass. The service was mostly arrogant, and the first receptionist was quick to answer us that since this is a 'boutique hotel' we are to expect very little. I think they are close to the center and perhaps Sarlat may not offer too many accomodations. I am inclined to think (even though we did not stay there but just from the outside) that the Four Star hotel - Piazza- down the street may offer a bit more in terms of services. In my opinion the almost 500 dollar/night is not justified whatsoever. I must say the other two receptionist after the first one as we arrived (who was not friendly or happy) were a bit nicer! Overall I would not recommend this hotel if you are expecting a 'five star' experience.

My family booked two rooms for 5 days late May. The spacious rooms were well appointed with very modern bathrooms. The location was a short walk to the medieval city center. Both the hotel and town were comfortably quiet. The counter staff was always friendly and willing to make our dinner reservations since we spoke very little French. On street parking was always available too.

My wife and I are presently here at the end of May 2015. Sarlat is quiet as is the hotel. Room is quiet, clean and in good repair. It is also larger (Hautefort) than I am accustomed to in Europe. Breakfast has been plentiful and good. Street parking is easy and the car is not necessary to get to center of historic area. Concierge service is good. The pool area looks nice.

Room tip: Hautefort was large.

We stayed here in June 2014. Hotel is in a great location only 10 minute walk from town centre. There is parking available through the hotel, but it is costly and a little way from the hotel. We just parked in street outside hotel - no problems.

Room was comfortable, but limited extras. WiFi was not working and had to go across the street to another hotel to get internet access. Very poor response from staff when asking when it would be fixed. Additionally, when we asked for more milk for coffee in room, it was like asking for a free nights accommodation. A growl and unpleasant response which was not expected given the problems with the WiFi and swimming pool. Greetings were much different to the young lady on reception who first met us and showed us to our room - a very pleasant welcome - something that was not present from the other grumpy female and male receptionists.

Swimming pool is shared with hotel next door. We had a team of American school kids staying there, so pretty noisy around pool all days. Not their fault but something that detracts from a peaceful swim after a great day around the Dordogne.

Hotel was superbly located for adventure in the Dordogne, with many restaurants in Sarlat. The Saturday markets must be in the top 5 in France - a must see if in the area.
