I good place to stay in Schluchsee been right in the center next to the superb looking church with easy parking. I chose to have a room in the roof with a large velux window which opened right up for great lake views. No air conditioning in my room on a day in the high 20's Celcius, but once the velux window was opened right up the room cooled down after a hour or so.
The downside was the bathroom layout- been very strange, with a high square shower tub you had to step over & into, which could be a problem for older people especially as there is very little room between the adjacent toilet & towel rail.
I chose to eat that evening elsewhere in the town. Breakfast in the morning was very good been a buffet set up with cold & hot foods as well as pasteries & breads.

Room Tip: Top floor have great lake views

Stayed in this hotel for a couple of nights in March. Good welcome and nice to see the staff in traditional Black Forest clothing. Room was basic but adequate and stay was reasonably priced. Bathroom was not to the expected standard but clean. Hotel has a nice character and nicely traditionally furnished and decorated.
We had dinner on the first night but it was not edible so we went to the pizza restaurant over the square. The hotel is well situated in a lovely village and area. The restaurant was empty apart from us so I guess the other residents and locals may have had a similar experience!

We really enjoyed staying at this Hotel for 3 days. Hotel price includes the "Hochschwarzwaldkarte" which allows you free entry into the Swimmingpool, climbing hall, use of the Skilifts, and much more. best Deal for families.
The rooms are clean, food is of great quality, we had "Halbpension". Can really recommend this Place. It also has a playing room for kids.

The hotel is in towncentre and a bit up on the hill from the lake but it does have some great views. There is a balcony at the restaurant where you have great lakeviews. A part is walled by glass so you're not in a cold wind. They have a sunroof too so when the sun is out you have plenty of shade.
The food is good and plenty. Rooms are spacious but bathrooms are small. Getting into the shower can be difficult (in our room) if you have trouble lifting your leg. The step in was very high. If you have a choice, rooms on the first floor can have a balcony with lake view. No airco in the rooms so we had a couple of rather warm nights.
There is a small indoor pool and sauna too.
Plenty of things to do on and around the lake. Rent a boat, SUP, rowboat, canoes or take the tourist boat over the lake.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with lakeview (if you like that).

Very nice hotel in a very nice village, but utterly dead: where does everyone go at night? I arrived here on a Sunday as a stopover before heading for Freiburg. The room was good but expensive, especially as it was out of season. And why do German hotels provide 14" TV's? I've never seen one so small since the 1950's. Also, just like almost all of Europe, there wasn't a single English speaking channel: not even CNN or BBC World. The towels were more like large handkerchiefs. Again, this is the norm in Europe. Pillows too were flimsy.

I had dinner in the hotel restaurant which is a good room. If you didn't eat or get a drink before 9pm you had no chance after that. Elsewhere the bars were all closed. I had soup, followed by the most boringly presented schnitzel and French fries. The 2 schnitzels were tasty, but they were accompanied by a great pile of chips and nothing else: a piece of lettuce and tomato would have made a difference. And it was 18 euros by itself.
