Stayed at Hotel Stockalperhof for 4 nights as part of the Classic Glacier Express Tour (Great Rail Journeys).

The hotel is generally unmanned after you receive your key, with the exception of the breakfast service. Rooms across 5 floors with even numbered rooms benefiting from a small balcony that looks on to the mountains.

Coffee (pod) machine provided but only 2 pods and after this you have to pay for your own (Coop is 100m away) so you end up eating and drinking out a lot of the time.

The bathroom suffers from the shower head being positioned too low to be of any use, with a hose that is too short in many rooms. This does need looked at by the management.

The hotel is very well positioned in Brig with a number of restaurants on the doorstep and only a 350m walk from the train station.

I personally would return without a second thought; it is the shower that stops this being a '5' review.
Date of stay: September 2023
Room Tip: Ask for an even numbered room to get a balcony. Turn left on exit from hotel and walk 100m to Coop.

Stayed 2 nights in our tour to Switzerland under EU Holidays. Hotel is near to supermarkets and the train station. Room given was on the top floor with a slanting ceiling. Not too bad as the room was larger than usual. However, the room utilities were badly maintained: (1) standing light near the sofa did not work (2) no AC while the given floor fan blows in one direction only (3) TV can only whisper when set to maximum volume 100% (4) toilet seat was broken loose and (5) ancient bathtub arranged in a terrible access angle to get in - safety hazards for short people. I believe there are better rooms in the lower floors with balconies. Poor choice of hotel unless you really like the Gelare ice cream shop beside this hotel.

Room tip: Good for 1 night if you are catching the train.

Good situation. Sold as 4 star by GRJ. Very basic. No kettle in room, shower in bath at shoulder level, difficult to get past fixed screen. Evening group food abysmal. B/fast good but staff overworked.. Understaffed. Evening staff needed training as had problem with even simple drinks orders. Beds comfy and clean.

Spotlessly clean. Small balcony with wonderful views. 5 minutes walk from the station.
No tea and coffee making facilities despite being in the room description. Small restaurant attached specialising in pasta which is very good. Prices as always in Switzerland are high. Supermarket nearby.

Room tip: Try a day in Italy. Stresa on Lake Maggiore is only an hour's train journey

Staff Mandy at the reception is sooooo RUDE!!!
Hotel should really take it seriously when putting staffs at front desk!
Rooms are really tight. But clean. Windows can be opened. However some rooms at top floor are dim because of the slanted attic roof design. You have to be really creative to find spaces for 2 standard luggages in the rooms.

We were greeted by a rude receptionist named Mandy upon check in with group. She also shouted so rudely at one of our tour member for wrongly entering to one of the rooms where shows luggages sign as he wanted to collect the luggage. It was an obvious racist discrimination as we are Chinese. However, we must compliment the breakfast staff, a sweet helpful lady. She is the only one serving during the breakfast time. She always put a beautiful smile despite having many requests for hot water etc👏... Basically a ok hotel without the rude lady.
