Value for money might be hard to find in Switzerland, but I found it at the Hotel Palü, rooms are perhaps a bit small, but very clean with everything you need there, the bar, as well as the restaurant are outstanding, best of all is the very friendly staff, bikeclothes dirty at the end of the day, no problem put them outside of your room and you will find them clean early next morning, with no extra cost, all in all a wonderfull experience

We stayed at the Palue for 4 nights in March, 2014 while on a cross country ski vacation (including the Engadin Skimarathon). We were very happy with our choice. Our room was lovely and had a great view up the valley towards Diavolezza and Bernina Pass. The views on the other side of the building would have been just as good. We chose half board and the food was always excellent. The bar and restaurant areas were very impressive. We liked everything about the Palue.
The cross country ski trails and winter hiking trails went right by the hotel so we didn't even use our car for 3 days. On the morning of the Skimarathon, Gerold transported the skiers to St. Moritz by the hotel van at 6:45am and 7:15 am to catch buses to the start at Maloja. This was a very nice service because, otherwise, we would have taken the 6am public bus and arrived at Maloja at least 2 hours before the start (it was very cold before the start and would have been unpleasant to stand around that long).
Pontresina is a wonderful base for a cross country skiing and winter hiking vacation (I sure that it's a wonderful base for a downhill skiing vacation, too, but we didn't have time). The Engadin Skimarathon is a great choice for a recreational cross country skier who wants to do a big loppet (the weather is usually good, the scenery is spectacular, the ski is fun and not too hard and there are lots of other recreational skiers so no worries about not fitting in). I'm already looking forward to next time.

We too stayed here as part of a 'Naturetrek" holiday in July 2013. The staff were very accommodating, nothing was too much trouble and everything was put in place to make our holiday one of the best ever. being a 10 minute walk out of the town, the hotel was in a quiet location yet just a short walk from the train and bus stops. The rooms are very clean and comfortable with excellent beds, clean and fluffy towels and well furnished in wood. Although a major extension was under way the workmen did not spoil the holiday at all and were quite and tidy. All in all an excellent place to stay.

We visited Pontresina as part of a group on a one week walking holiday with 'Naturetrek', to see the wonderful mountain flowers. The hotel Palu is a small, family run hotel which has just been refurbished to a very high standard. The owner, Gerald, and his team were exemplary in every respect. The choice at breakfast was better than we have had anywhere and the evening meals were always varied and superb, and served by efficient and attentive waiting staff.

We found the rooms extremely comfortable with good quality bed and bedding.

The hotel is on the outskirts of the town but it is only a pleasant ten minute walk to the bus stop or the train station from which you can readily access the whole region.

From our experience we can highly recommend this hotel.
