This property is a left over Beaches property, for those they think can't afford Negril or Turks. It is a little cheaper than the other properties, but not enough to justify the price. Beaches Boscobel is a 3*.The rooms are Ok, but not for the price you are paying.Food, well if you can eat at the buffet, the food is ok and staff are great, but the other restaurants are 3*.Beach is small but good if you have small children, it is 100% private. No one asked me for tips and the people in water were kind Jamaicans trying to make a living.I still can't figure out what the Concierge does.If you have been to another Beaches, you will be very sad about the entertainment. The staff in general were fine, but I think they know that their hotel has BIG problems. This is not a Beaches as we see on the website and in the adds.It is a 3* hotel with some Sesame Street Characters, but not Big Bird....guess he doesn't go to 3 *. One night
some clients pointed out that the general manager was smoking with some of the staff. We all thought this to be very classless as this is a childrens resort first. I actually did notice a lot of parents smoking after that and thought this is not good, but the hotel general manager.to sum up, if you get this hotel cheap, the kids will like the slides, the food is kind of ok and they have good sun.The kids program is not like the other Beaches, so you will have your kids with you,I am sure.If this is Ok with you, then go, but if you have been to Beaches Negril or God Forbid, Turks, you will not like it.

I have a child with food allergies and was sceptical about taking him out of country. If you have food allergies or you have children with allergies this is the place to go. We went to the buffet restaurant as soon as we got there and asked to speak to the chef. Ramona came out and was our guide and guardian angel for the rest of our stay. She took my son around the restaurant and introduced him to ALL of the staff, kitchen and diningroom, and explained his allergy to them with all the important details like clean pans and utensils for cooking his food. She came out of the kitchen every time we ate at the buffet to hug the kids and make sure he had his soy milk and introduce him to others whom he hadn't met yet. She went out of her way to make sure my son was safe and enjoying himself. She even came in early on our last day at the resort to say goodbye to us and she cooked a hot breakfast for us before we left even though the kitchen was not open yet! If you have any dietary concerns ask to talk to Ramona, she was a godsend for our family.

No hot water in the rooms? You've got to be kidding me! Well, If you stayed here...you know what I mean when I say NO hot water in the rooms...for the entire week, any time of day. This isn't going to be a negative rant on the resort...it has some redeeming qualities. However, it is FAR from 5 star...or even 4 star! It would certainly be worth it if it was less money. If you have stayed at a 5 star all inclusive or Beaches Turks, you know what I mean...

First, the positive:
1. Upgraded us to a beautiful ocean view room.
2. Buffet breakfast was outstanding. Peter the omelette chef was quite talented.
3. All service staff at the restaurants were top notch. Really tried to make your experience.
A la carte restaurants were very nice and tasty. Special shout-outs to Eleanors staff. They were great and the food was outstanding.
4. Excellent drinks...not skimpy on the alcohol. Used brand names too.
5. Friendly staff. Concierge was very helpful.
6. Snorkel excursions were fantastic and free.
7. Xbox room had the latest and greatest games.
8. Waterslides were a blast!

The not so positive:
1. Did I mention no hot water? Not just in our rooms...but everywhere. They said they would be fixing it in the middle of the night...never did. Just a bunch of lies. The concierge even confirmed that it was not fixable. Makes you wonder about the sanitation of the food products in the kitchen.
2. Bees. You could not even get a drink or an ice cream without being swarmed. They are not as rampant across the rest of the resort. However, the bars and ice cream/ popcorn/ pop machine were covered in them. They pay people to clean areas around the resort. They should pay someone to clean this every hour at least. Nkids can definitely not help themselves.
3. The arts and crafts is NOT all inclusive. You pay an exorbanent fee!
4. Rooms had two night tables only to unpack your things in to. For four people...good luck.
5. People put out towels everywhere and never show up. The seats are taken all day long
6. Main pool is FREEZING. I swim in lakes all the time and it doesn't bug me. However, this is like swimming in October! The temperature was high 60s in the pool.
7. I wouldn't enter the hot tubs. They were cloudy the entire time...and not white cloudy, but black cloudy!
8. Saw a rat, yes a rat, outside Arizona's restaurant. Am I over exaggerating?? Well, it was bigger than a football. You decide.
9. Pictures they take are poor resolution. They will tell you it is higher, but it is not. You pay $16 a shot, just for the "file" on a cd. Yikes!
10. The BBQ park restaurant constantly ran out of certain food. They had burgers and fries all the time. However, chicken fingers (although very good) were "all out" by 2:00pm. So was the nachos...so were the onion rings...The 10:00 pm - midnight had nothing except burgers. And if you want to eat here for lunch, don't line up. Go to the restaurant there and sit down. They will serve you much faster.
11. Glass bottom boat ride...don't blink. Otherwise it will be over. They go about two minutes off shore from their resort.
12. Beggars in the swimming area on the beach. These people wanted to barter with you for alcohol. They beg and bug you. They want you to buy things
13. The waterfront staff were really not interested in making sure that the resort guests enjoyed themselves. They hung out together. The banana boat rides are given only for two hours in the afternoon. Why? The line up was massive. Same for the hydrabike and the kayaks. Why shouldn't you be able to use these features all day long? Because it would interfere with their social schedule.
14. Checking out from the resort in the afternoon? You will pay extra. No courtesy room either. Cash grab.
15. Entertainment in the evenings...not entertaining. For example, they had a contest one night where the parents had to guess the answers to questions that their kids were asked when they were not there. 5 questions...this would be funny. But 10 questions...that would be fine, but with 13 kids on stage...it is not funny
Tips
If you have booked this vacation spot...don't worry. You will like it...you will feel ripped off, but it will be enjoyable as long as you don't think about whether you are getting your moneys worth.
1. Bring your own mugs so you can always get drinks when you need. The cups run out all the time.
2. Concierge service....not necessary.
3. Wifi...save your money. It doesn't work.
4. Bring money to tip the transfer driver to and from the resort and another person who carries your bags five feet in the airport out to the bus.
5. Don't be afraid to ask for another dish at the specialty restaurant. The portions are small.
6. Bring your own towels. That way you can save your seats at the pool.
7. Save your money and book club med for this cost!

Room Tip: Ocean Front is excellent

We spent a week in June at Beaches Boscobel with our 3 girls (6, 8 and 10). What a wonderful place to just relax! There are activities if you want to participate. The kids camp was great, our girls loved going in the evening. The food was plentiful and surprisingly good. It isn't a large resort, however, we were never bored. We did an excursion to Dunn's River Falls which I highly recommend, even with younger children. The staff was wonderful, especially in the spa. We did have a minor medical emergency with one of our children and the staff was prepared and a doctor was quickly brought on property. The only drawback was the ride from the airport, it did seem like forever.

After our family of 4 returned from Beaches Boscobel I wrote the following letter and sent it to my travel agent and to "Beaches" head office:

I am writing to you with feedback on our vacation to Beaches Boscobel, Ochos Rios. First I would like to explain that I would consider my husband and I to be seasoned vacationers to the Caribbean, we have vacationed in either Mexico or the Dominican Republic a couple of times a year for roughly 15yrs now. Always staying at 5 star all inclusive resorts.
Upon meeting you our travel agent), you suggested that Beaches Boscobel in Ochos Rios Jamaica might be the best fit for our next family vacation. We had never stayed at a Sandals/Beaches property before but knew of them for their reputation for superior quality resorts. You mentioned that you had just returned from this particular property and were impressed with their “multi million dollar renovation”. Hearing that this property was newly renovated, it was a Sandals/Beaches property and having spent a lot of time learning about Sandals/Beaches resorts and this resort in particular on their website; we decided to book for our family of four.
We were at Beaches Boscobel from Thursday January 12 until Thursday January 19th 2012.
Unfortunately our stay at this resort did not meet our expectations nor those of anyone expecting a 5 star resort, much less a Sandals/Beaches resort. To keep this letter as brief as possible I will list for you the areas of concern we had:
1.The restaurant menus posted online were not the menus used, nor the food offered during our stay.
2.Arizona’s restaurant we not open for lunch on at least two of the days we tried to eat there at lunchtime, despite it being advertised as being a lunch option on both the website and on their daily resort paper.
3.Although our room was fresh, clean and updated – the common walkways etc were not.
4.The pools did not open until 10am, which seems absurd for a resort whose main demographic are families with young children.
5.Pool maintenance was done between 9am and 10am in the morning. On one day, they painted the concrete coupping around the pool at 9:30am and then were very displeased when a lady and her children happened to walk through the wet paint. On another day, at 9:50am someone came out to the children’s pool with a gas powered power washer and proceeded to wash the concrete decking around the pool and then expected people to walk around him and the equipment. The general cleaning of the deck or walk ways from pool to pool where also cleaned in the late morning with a soapy- bleach solution and then the puddles left to dry rather than being swept away. This meant that those areas where always slippery.
6.The food was tolerable at best. Often what looked appetizing was either tasteless or luke warm. This poor quality food was resort wide and not only limited to the buffet. The desserts were stale and dry as though they were putting out the day before leftovers until they were used.
7.Scuba diving was something that our family found on the website as being included (lesson in the pool first and then once resort certified, 1- 20ft dive per person per day) and thought that it would be a wonderful opportunity to try something new. On our first day, we attended the water sports centre and enquired about signing up for Scuba diving and were told that the poolside lesson was $80US pp and then if we wanted to do a dive after that they would ‘rent’ us the necessary equipment.
8.Wi-Fi connection was available but at a cost of $12.99/day or $42.99US for the week.
9.We did see the Sesame Street characters around the resort but were shocked that the cost of the ‘breakfast with the characters’ was $16/child and $12/adult. $56US for a family of four to eat the food that was already included???
10.Upon enquiring at the front desk about taking a taxi into town we were directed to the ‘tour desk’. The tour desk offered a ‘shopping excursion’ for $20US per person. We passed Ochos Rios about 15mins outside of the resort on our way in and couldn’t believe that they wanted $80US for a family of four to go to town to shop! I took my enquiry one step further and asked an employee by the pool and they told me that a local taxi ride would be approximately $2US per person. However they wouldn’t recommend a tourist going into town unaccompanied, that getting back to the resort would be a problem as many taxis will take tourists into their car and drive them around for hours until they agree to pay them more money. This information just made us feel that it wouldn’t be safe for us to leave the resort – so sadly we didn’t.
11.In general the excursions were extremely pricey. The trip to Dunn’s River Falls was $320 US for four plus the rental of water shoes.
12.My husband and I both had a massage done at the spa and were shocked to find that when we came to check out that there is a mandatory 12.5% gratuity added to our bill ( $140 massage plus $17.50 each). Isn’t tipping considered something that is given by the choice of the patron for service above and beyond what is generally expected??
13.I enquired at the arts and crafts centre about their activities and pricing; To paint a seashell; $10US. To scrapbook a 12 x 12 inch page $20 OR a scrapbooking kit for $45. To stencil a bandana $15.

Not only were the items advertised on the website not what was actually offered; for example the Scuba diving and menus, it seemed that they were constantly asking for money for items that could easily have been included. When you travel to an all inclusive resort; especially one with the reputation and advertising that Beaches/Sandals has, the last thing you expect is to be ‘nickle and dimed’ throughout your vacation.
