My family of four wanted to try Thai food. The tempura chicken was bland and I would not recommend it. The Cashew Nut stir fry was good and came with a small rice bowl. The Chai Tea was good. The restaurant is small and noisy and unfortunately a large family invaded the restaurant and some stayed inside and many went across the street to Jack In the Box and brought their burgers and fries back to the restaurant to eat!..The managers should have said not but did not do so....spoiling an otherwise nice lunch...

We were starving and very cold when we decided to go to Royal Thai. My partner always has a hankering for Tom Kha; and although I'm a little more simple-minded and less familiar with Thai food, this store looked welcoming and there were already a couple couples dining there, so we randomly chose Royal Thai as our dining location as we walked through the adorable (and seemingly deserted during the mid-week off-season) Big Bear Lake Village. We ordered their Tom Kha and Red Curry dish. We were pleasantly surprised at how flavorful and spicy both dishes were. My partner thought the Tom Kha to be a little sour for his taste (but he ate it all). I ate the Red Curry dish with chicken and found the dish to be addictive...I couldn't put my spoon down. It was a nice balance of spice, coconut, mild Curry, and basil. Very tasty.

Overall, I would recommend Royal Thai Cafe. There seemed to be one server/manager gentleman and a cook at the time we went. But service to our table didn't suffer. Very hospitable and food was generally delicious and warmed us from the inside out.

Very friendly and efficient service. Made very welcome. Food was hot and fresh but had a definite US influence. Not as spicy or authentic as UK equivalents.

Recently visited for dinner with friends / clients. We made reservations, but likely only need to during busy weekends and holidays. Small and open setting is not conducive to private discussions, but what have I got to hide anyway!

I was jonsing for Thai, and this is the only game in town. People I asked locally said, "Oh, it's OK." They were all right. The same owners own another restaurant for Nepalese and Himalayan cuisine. The same group of locals say it's pretty much Indian, and it is pretty good. Haven't tried it yet.
