If you do not like luxury, then you will not like Lake Ohau Lodge.

If you do not like incredible views of that take your breath away, you will not like this lodge.

If you do not like the most friendly, hospitable people New Zealand has to offer, you will definitely not like this place.

If you do not like very reasonably priced, clean and comfortable accommodation in a laid-back, welcoming atmosphere, you will also not like this lodge.

If you have an aversion to five star three course meals day in day out, then avoid Lake Ohau Lodge.

If you do not appreciate your kids being fed and entertained by lodge staff throughout the leisurely evening while you sip mulled wine on the couch in front of a crackling fire, then don't go to Lake Ohau Lodge during the school holidays.

If you don't like to sit in a jacuzzi after a hard day skiing, cold beer in hand, then you'll have a hard time enjoying Lake Ohau Lodge.

If you prefer to bask in the winter sunshine lazily reading a book in the quiet front room while everyone else pounds down the snow-capped mountain just 15 minutes away, then I warn you, don't go to Lake Ohau Lodge.

In summary, if your goal is perfection then Lake Ohau Lodge is not the place for you.

Very simple rooms. I was in Temple wing - the nicer end of their accommodation. Totally fine in terms of an out-of-the-way ski lodge, but too basic (old, worn furniture, no tv, etc) for the price.

Comfortable warm and spacious shared lounge / dining room / bar. Closest accommodation to Ohau skifield - right at the base of the mountain road.

Dinner was top quality, and what you would expect of a first class restaurant anywhere. The chef / cooks are a real asset to the lodge.

The Lodge was recommended to us by everyone we spoke to about going to Ohau. It didnt disappoint.
Louise is the most hospitable, warm and welcoming host, the staff are great and the food is just amazing! The 3 course dinners are just fantastic, and a great way to meet up with other guests.
They were very accommodating for special dietary needs - gluten free (the chef even made me special toast at breakfast yesterday, because the GF bread wasnt fresh enough!)
Jock and Louise also make a great espresso.
Most rooms have views over the lake, have great showers...
highly recommended, and we are already planning to go back!

Room Tip: pick a room with a view.

4th visit to the lodge in as many years and each time it blows us away. I have previously attended a wedding here, visited with close family and visited with just my wife. We recently took our family including 2 young children to attend a family members 30th birthday weekend and to ski, which happened to coincide with The Scottish night….what a night and weekend in general! Louise, Jock and the rest of the lodge staff (more like a family) do an amazing job of blending everybody’s needs and wants no matter if you are a backpacker, group of friends, family or on a pensioner tour. Yeah the rooms are a little dated, the restaurant is a little tired and you have to share the space with other people, but that’s what makes it! The dinner choice as always is limited but fresh, local and amazing, the breakfast is tasty and substantial and will set you up for a day’s skiing or hiking. I would say that all negative comments posted are because previous guests have been incorrectly sold the product by the travel agent or didn’t realise what they are going to receive.

It’s an iconic kiwi offering and if you want a flash 5 star lodge with a massive selection of food and the place to yourself then Ohau Lodge is not for you. But if you want great kiwiana hospatility, wonderful food and the type of holiday that puts a smile on your face then this is the place.
p.s The snow conditions are currently great

Had a great couple of nights here, skiing was a but icy, but its a wonderful place to ski, amazing views... the brekky each day was more than enough... the veggie brekky was especially good! Dinner each night very good... pride of place however were the outdoor hot tubs to soak away the bruises! Staff were very good, and coped well with the drunken debauchery in he bar and hot tubs... great bar in the evening to party hard...

Room Tip: Get in that hot tub early... there ain't much room!!!
