Simply amazing!!!! The food was delicious, eight courses, each one better than the next. There were 17 of us and they managed the service with excellence. We highly recommended an evening of pure enjoyment.

One of the best meals I have had in my lifetime. We stumbled upon this small restaurant while passing through Tuscan wine country, arriving 15 minutes before it was open. The staff were rolling out fresh dough for the evening's pasta and taking care of other last-minute details -- a sight worth a visit in itself. The meals themselves were stunningly wonderful. The pastas were delicate and flavorful (ricotta and local nettles that evening -- it may sound odd, but it was delicious), and the salad, made of wild local greens and herbs topped with wild rose petals, was unique and refreshing. The menu was decidedly sophisticated, featuring locally sourced meats, fish and vegetables. The house wine was excellent. If the restaurant were located in a more metropolitan location, it would be impossible to walk in at the last minute and enjoy a meal here.

During our last stay in Val d'Orcia me and my wife decided to try this restaurant for dinner: well it was totally worth the way to get there!!. Usually I don't list the dishes we order but in this case Pappa col pomodoro deserves the right to be mentioned, but everything we choose was to my opinion outstanding.
What else to say.... courtesy and hospitality is a distinctive trait of the hosts, we felt at home talking with them while dining, and that also gave us the chance to understand the passion they put in their activity: is really interesting exchange views on the guiding principles of choosing the right ingredients for the recipie ( an example is the choice between meat of Chianina or Maremmana for different kind of coocking
I think that we will definitely visit La Taverna del Pian delle Mura every time we are back in the beautiful Val d'Orcia

Truly warm and inviting, La Taverna also happens to have a splendid menu with all of the robust seasonal flavors of Tuscany. We arrived on a Monday evening; although the restaurant was usually closed, they were hosting a private party this evening but still welcomed us to dine with them as though we were part of the family. The hospitality of the owners and conviviality of fellow diners really elevates the experience and made our meal unforgettable in addition to being delicious.

We particularly enjoyed our simple, perfect fresh pasta made with ricotta, spinach and served in warm sage butter. The beef, roasted and sliced into near translucency, was also outstanding; the tenderness and flavor were such that every bite seemed more delicious than the last, because you almost forgot how good it was until you had another fork. Doesn't make sense? Try it and you will understand my meaning ;) Buon appetito!

Osteria d'Italia/Slowfood eateries are almost always in our "very good" category, but this one fell a bit short for some reason. The tortino to start was probably the best part of our pranzo. The first and second plates and dessert were fine, but somehow lacking in complex flavors overall. When we start to wonder "If we had the same ingredients could WE make this dish?" it usually means it's a place we wouldn't make a big effort to come back to. If you happen to find yourself up here for other reasons, it's worth a stop, but for us it falls short of being worthy of a detour or a special trip just to dine here.
