I celebrated my 50th Birthday at Hotel Luna Azul and Rolf and his team were just exceptional in hosting a special dinner for six. We enjoyed our stay the villa/cabana was excellent accommodation. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous and well maintained. The staff are exceptional from ground crews to the kitchen. Rolf takes exceptional care of his guests. We've already booked our return in November 2018 and look forward to ,m .our next visit! Excellent food for breakfast and dinner at reasonable prices. Amazing sunset views from the property and some room decks.

We were lucky enough to be able to come back to Hotel Luna Azul. We were here almost three years ago. We were welcomed back to the property by Rolf. He made us feel like we came back home! It was wonderful to see his smiling face and be welcomed back with open arms.

Everything about this place is splendid. Rolf makes sure that your visit is everything you want and more. He will provide the most wonderful advice on what to do while you are there. His knowledge on the area, the wildlife, the weather, the activities is spot on!

Luna Azul is set up on a hill overlooking the Pacific. It's in a quiet, serene setting. You will not be inundated with people walking up to you while lying by the pool trying to sell you stuff like you see at some resorts.

Each bungalow is your own private place complete with an outdoor shower. You can sit out on the deck and listen to the birds and monkeys in the forest. Writing about this now, makes me want to go back right now!

We brought some friends with us who had never been to this wonderful country. Everything we told them about this place was even more wonderful on our last visit. I do believe (no, I know) that we will definitely be back and I'm sure our friends will accompany us.

Shout out to Rolf, Roberto (our new best friend), Andreas and of course Fino! They will make your stay that much more wonderful. MUCHAS GRACIAS mi amigos.

In our two and a half weeks travelling in Costa Rica we stayed in some brilliant places but the hotel Luna Azul was the best of the lot. A few weeks before we travelled from England we discovered that we may still have a chance to see some turtles and therefore made a switch from Tamarindo to Ostional. So glad we did as Ostional was one of our favourite locations and Tamarindo was one of our least favourite. The Swiss host at the Luna Azul was clearly passionate about what he did and answered all our emails before we travelled and was there to welcome us when we arrived. He also arranged trips and guides and gave us all the information we needed to thoroughly enjoy our 3 days spent there. Hotel was totally unique and well designed. The pool was good and the restaurant served the best food we had in Costa Rica. Loved our room with the big painting of a turtle on the wall, not sure I would have liked the other English couples room however, they had to share their loo with Eric, a very large toad! The whole experience of seeing the baby turtles erupting from their nest and waddling down to the sea will stay with me for ever. Truly magical!

Lovely small hotel, just 7 rooms, with a gorgeous dining room overlooking the pool. We stayed in a fair few hotels in Costa Rica on a driving tour, but this one was our favourite. Great room with views, lush gardens, lovely food. Very personal service, great hosts and staff. Everything works perfectly, but it’s relaxed. It has a slow pace, fantastic setting and we had an amazing few days chilling after quite a hectic tour.

This is a stunning property with a main area, lounge, restaurant, pool, and seven cabinas with private balconies and outdoor showers. The grounds and cabinas are exquisite and maintained to perfection. Nothing is old or worn or unkempt. Things seem to be humming along like a well-oiled machine, in large part to the hotel’s charming Swiss proprietor Rolf who came to Costa Rica 15 years ago, fell in love with it, and never looked back. Rolf brings an eye for detail (while being totally chill about it), and everything is thoughtfully planned and placed for guests. The beaches, including Ostional for the turtles, are under 10 minutes away driving. The accommodations and the food and the hospitality and the views are spectacular. Loved it and Rolf. Can’t wait to get back here!
