This was the most expensive Mercure on our 2 week trip and I guess we had high expectations. On arrival we went into the garage and took our luggage up to reception and waited several minutes before anyone showed up. The receptionist told us they had a nice room for us on the 3rd floor but it would be an hour before it would be ready. After a frustrating drive through Dieppe with many roads closed because of the kite festival we just wanted to have a room to relax in. Our room was on the 1st floor so limited ocean view. Room was ok but no toiletries except a soap dispenser in the shower which is not what we're used to in Mercure hotels. There was no desk and only one chair! We relaxed in the room for a while then went to the restaurant/bar to enjoy our welcome drink. We were told in no uncertain terms that the restaurant was independent and we would have to pay for drinks!!! I went back to reception and asked why they had given us the voucher when we couldn't use it. She said she would talk to the bartender but came back empty handed. She informed us that we could use the voucher in the other bar but it wouldn't open until 17:30. We went off to explore the town for a while then got back to the hotel just after 18:00 so figured we would go for our welcome drink in the other bar only to find it was closed for the day!!!! Compared to other Mercure's we stayed in on this trip, this fell way short. We also had an issue with the shower which didn't drain well atall and almost overflowed onto the bathroom floor. There were really no major problems but just a catalogue of events that spoiled our stay.

went fine and we were given a voucher for a welcome drink.

We were lucky to find a parking space at the rear of the hotel. Check-in proved satisfactory, but our original room was not ready, so we were offered another similar one on the floor above.
The hotel looked (like Dieppe) in need of refurbishment and a good lick of paint. Our room was air-conditioned, but the furniture looked like retro 80s stuff and whoever designed the split bathroom (separate loo/separate shower/separate washbasin) needs his/her head examining...
Moreover, the fancy glass wardrobe and cupboard stand containing tea and coffee-making facilities took up far too much space in the room.
The bed was a double (we had asked for two separate beds), but there were two comfy armchairs available.
The 'classy' evening meal was enjoyable on the whole, but it was spoilt by the waiter failing to acknowledge our honesty in returning the bill, as we had not been charged for our aperitifs. A word of thanks would have been appreciated!
We were pleased to be allowed into breakfast early, otherwise we would have been swamped by a large elderly party of middle class Brexiteers!. The quality of food on offer was not bad, but coffee was lukewarm and the lay-out of breakfast items was such that we had to walk all over the place to find plates, milk, spoons, etc.

Room Tip: The sea view rooms do not really offer a good outlook. Dieppe is not an ideal place to stay, as it is shabby and run-down!

Clean, tidy with friendly staff and under hotel parking (€7 / night). We didnt try the bar or restaurant but the 3-bed room was large and spacious with all the necessary things in it you'd expect. Nice location under the castle and near to the center street.

Location :
The hotel is facing the western end of the beach, below the castle.
A more centric location would have been better, but, the visit to the old town can easily be done by walk.
The building itself dates back 50 years ago. Renovation makes it pleasant but, they can't modify the structure, such as the low ceiling (2m10 in corridors of room floors).

Access to the beach is easy. Just go past the public pool.

Room :
Our room was a mini suite, which is the standard room plus a "sofa" corner.
We apreciated having the extra space, as a standard room may have been a little bit too small.
This sofa corner is not really optimized in the sense that there is no furniture (low table) and the TV isn't even facing the sofa. Therefore, we understood that its main purpose was to use it for extra bed, unfolding the sofa (up to two persons).

The decoration is pleasant with the usual Mercure flower motif.

Bed : (1m70 x 2m)
A little bit soft by my taste.

Bathroom :
It is separated from the toilet, which is a good thing.
Be informed : there is no door. You may not be seen from the outside corridor (when the room door is open), but, you won't feel comfortable if you are travelling with a friend or a colleague.
The washbasin is extremely shallow (10cm at deepest point), therefore, unpractical to wash your face or rinse your bathing suit.
There is no place to hang more than one towel.

Amenities :
That's the biggest disappointment for a four-star hotel.
No slippers, no toothbrush, big bottle of shampoo / body gel / do-anything liquid attached in the shower (instead of brand toiletries).
Lousy instant coffee available at any 2-star hotel (but, Damman tea).
Cheap pencil (though Mercure standard). Plastic cups.

Equipment :
Mini bar with two complimentary small bottles of Evian (refilled every day) and chargeable soft drinks.
Hair dryer.
TV : 43inch Ambilight Philips (flat HD), facing the bed.
Safe.

Communication :
Wifi signal is weak. We had to wait just to download a TA page ...
We saw many young (and not so young) with their smartphone / laptop at the bar near the lobby. Bandwidth was probably better there.
BTW, it says "no P2P, no Voice IP". Too bad for international calls ...

Breakfast :
The quality and variety is just correct.
It was very crowded and many people had to wait to be seated. Croissant basket, ham plate were empty for tens of minutes. In short, obvious lack of personnel.

Parking :
7EUR per day, with unlimited entries.
As there is no public parking space on peak days, it's quite convenient to leave the car at the hotel and roam the city by foot. Car height is limited to 1m80.

Restaurant :
We don't usually comment on restaurant, as taste is quite personal. Nevertheless, we have to say that 1) quality/price ratio is OK, 2) the outside terrace is cold after sunset, 3) service was extremely low (a good half hour between dishes ; many clients were complaining), 4) there was a price mistake on the tab.
FYI, a better dining can be found by the beach, straight towards the sea ;-)

As a conclusion.
Before writing this, we had to check many times that this was really a four-star hotel.
Overall the experience was good, the room is renovated and clean, staff is rather nice and helpful, but consider it as a good three-star.
