Conveniently situated and friendly staff but rooms have no insulation whatsoever so you hear all that goes on above and around you. Breakfast is OK but we had two awful meals with the meat so tough you couldn't cut it, let alone eat it. Useful underground carpark.

The hotel is ideally situated on the front and has an underground car park. Room 331 was very comfortable and a decent size. Breakfast could have been better especially the rubbery scrambled eggs. The rooms with a 'town view' are probaby quieter. The staff were all helpfull and friendly.

Too bad for the bed which was too soft in room 325. Perhaps the mattresses should be replaced by
Mercure standards.
Everything else in the room was ok.
The staff was very friendly.
Good private parking underneath the hotel.

Front desk staff spoke English, bar was good, restaurant was good if a little expensive. Rooms were decent, but nothing spectacular. Great view, good location near shopping and dining. Easier to park your car across the street at the pay lot than navigate the narrow parking garage under hotel. Don't park in the free beach lot overnight.

Perhaps. But that's not really good enough. Our experience with Mercure Hotels is that they are a mixed bag. True to form, they offered useful, secure parking, although the signage on the outside of the hotel was far from clear to the entrance. You have to enter the hotel to get the code to open the gate anyway. You might need a chiropractor and/or a auto mechanic after negotiating the sharp turn into the underground garage. The staff is quite pleasant, the public rooms are designed with some style; the sea views are premium and the restaurant does a very fine job with dinner. The bed and bed linens are of pleasing quality.

On the negative side,a "4 star" hotel is offering "2-3 star" towels and toiletries. The design and decor of our room is confused. Furniture, curtains, bedspread are mismatched, although all represent questionable taste. Two oval tables near the window are a bizarre substitute for night stands.

The "closet" would be perfect for someone five feet tall. Apparently, the hotel doesn't know what is a pants hangar. The room lighting is haphazard with a dozen light switches in different places, some with overlapping functions. The sink mirror, with a combination of fluorescent vertical lights and one spot light in the ceiling require contortions to complete shaving or makeup chores in a manner that you can see what you are doing.

The breakfast service is barely adequate, boring, and generic. At 9:30, when the breakfast hour runs to 10, no fresh tables were set and most of the buffet breads and preserves were gone. Some items were replaced at 9:55, but we had had our coffee, supermarket grade juice and were ready to go. Again, this is FAR from what one expects in a four star hotel.

I continue to have a problem with Accor's indifferent attitude to internet security. Yes, they offer free wi-fi, but it is not secure. Indeed, they don't even require a password anymore. With their business clout, they should be able to provide secure internet service for their guests and they should know why it is important.

Mercure continues to punch under its weight. They have good locations and a hefty corporate presence. They could and should do better.

Would we stay here again? We would look into other options first.
