Im Corsham local and hadn't visited The Methuen for a few years. It was a pleasant surprise to hear that it had been taken over and had a refresh as I personally thought it needed a change.
There are two menus to choose from; either a classic bar/pub menu (burgers, steak, fish and chips etc.) or an 'a la carte' which is safe to say didn't disappoint. The a la carte menu is experimental, interesting and all together a well put together thought out menu. This was a delight to see in a pub in Corsham!
I started with scallops which were fresh and cooked to perfection, along with cauliflower and curry powder which was a combination I hadn't been familiar with however tasted amazing.
For desert the deconstructed Banoffee pie was one of the best deserts I have ever eaten and was the icing on the cake to our meal. The salted caramel panna cotta along with brûléed banana was outstanding and is something I would definitely recommend leaving room for!
Altogether the food demonstrated that the chefs at the Methuen are extremely talented and not shy when it comes to trying out new dishes.
The only down side I would say about the experience is that the waiting staff need to up their game and show more understanding and enthusiasm towards the food.
