I fancied going out to a Chinese restaurant for dinner on Friday. I was a spur-of-the moment thing (you know how it is) Thought I'd check out Tripadvisor to find out what was the best Chinese restaurant in town, and of course it had to be about 8 miles away! So then I remembered O-Tokuda. I knew it was Japanese but I had never tried it before and although it was late (6 p.m.) A phone call managed to secure me a table for two at 7.30. When we arrived at the restaurant it was packed and very noisy, though I must say the noise was that of people having a good natured celebration! A real fun atmosphere. We were shown to our table and the service! Unbelievably fast. We ordered the all you can eat buffet menu, but the word buffet is a little misleading as it suggests food that has been kept hot and that you serve yourself with. Not the case at O-Tokuda. The charming waitress, guessing we were first -time customers brought us a selection of delicious starters, all freshly cooked and piping hot, Mussels in black bean sauce, chicken Yakatori, deep fried chilli prawns, tiny spring rolls etc. All beatifully cooked and presented. A real feast on it's own and then the main courses! Stunning. We reeled away from the table totally stuffed (felt a bit guilty, but not a lot) A great evening out in a brilliant atmosphere, and the hardest working kitchen brigade on the planet. Try it. You'll love it.....

Been here many many times and have always received great service and enjoyed the food. The staff literally force the food on you unlike many other all you can eat places which seem to begrudge feeding you. Not keen on it for parties as the layout means you can only talk to your immediate neighbours on the table easily.

A family trip to O Tokuda tonight. And have to say it's been another excellent evening.

This fab restaurant has a great selection of food, choose the 'all you can eat' option to sample lots of different dishes. The team are friendly with fast service and prices are good. If you go with 8 or more people on your birthday the birthday person has a free meal which was great for my sister! Would absolutely recommend.

O-Tokuda is a Japanese-Thai fusion restaurant that offers a buffet service. But its big selling point is that the buffet is not self-service from trays that have been on hotplates for ages; everything is cooked to order. There are over a hundred items on the menu and while a few attract an extra charge, most fall within the single price (14 pounds midweek, 15 pounds at weekends). And the waiters are regularly attentive; they're not trying to cut down the amount you eat by forcing you to delay your orders.

Starters include sushi, sashimi, and temaki rolls/cones. There are a few of each type available. Spare ribs, salt and pepper prawns, and other hot dishes are also on the starter menu.

Main dishes offer a list of sauces and meats; there are also some chef's specialities which are popular, such as homey lemon chicken or Thai green curry. The main dishes are deliberately small because you're expected to have more than one; for example, crispy prawns with mayonnaise includes just four prawns.

It's a great place to go with friends, as you can each order a dish or two and then pick and choose at the table.

Decor and drinks are pretty average: better than cheap and cheerful, but not white-linen-candles-and-soft-music. It's actually pretty cramped for space at busy times.

Access to it is down a very uninviting alleyway (and it's even worse at night!) Be brave; the restaurant is worth it.
