The room was a good size, as was the bathroom, the 4 poster bed was ideal, the room was very clean and the towels and bed linen spotless and a good quality, Ok perhaps the manager is not Mr Customer Service of the year but if you want a clean central place to stay with good food the Peacock will fit the bill. Will be back.

thank you for the review lizzie

first time i have got to know about these reviews, and now having read for the first time all of them, i feel yours is just about the most honest and accurate of them all.

firstly i would like to address a few issues...

the Peacock, and i say this without any prejudice, is second to none in Bakewell for:

value...we are situated in a high sort after tourist area, and although not cheap, we feel that we charge a very reasonable rate for the accommodation we offer.

rooms...they are clean, throughly cleaned at every changeover, or refreshed if the stay is more than one night. all the bedding is of high quality, and clean towels and toiletries are supplied
every day.
location...you could not have a more central position in Bakewell., i guess if Bakewell was a dart board, we would be bulls eye!

cleanliness....as stated we feel our hygiene and cleanliness is second to none, carried out by competant and honest caring people.

service... is all you could expect from a pub B & B, if you want something and ask....yes ask, we will do our upmost to supply your requirements within reason.

sleep quality...not to sure how one would rate sleep quality....what i do know, is that all our rooms have good decent beds, are spacious with en-suites, and yes some are slightly at an advantage to another, (they are all nice by the way), but i would not choose to stay any where else within 500 yards of the peacock, if given the option, and believe me once you are 500 yards away from the peacock in Bakewell, you're heading out of town!!!

food....probably the best in town......just ask around!

which gets me round to the manager, well i'm not the manager, i am the owner and my name is Graham Webb, and ok if you come to Bakewell and want me to entertain you i am not the man, what i will do for you is provide you with a hotel, or B & B, that invests in the product, ie makes sure that you have Quality rooms, Quality staff, Quality equipment, Quality food, Quality location and for all the beer drinkers, Quality ales.
i will be polite, and treat you with respect, but i will not patronise you, or jump through hoops or do sommersaults for you, that is your job, you have come to Bakewell to find you and you will, because this is a great little town, with no baggage and no flashing lights, so to all you that criticise me, take a look at yourself before making judgement, you are here to enjoy YOURSELF and we provide your bed, breakfast and maybe evening meal for the night and do it with QUALITY!
so again, i'm not here to put out the red carpet, but i am here to do my job, and you will be treading on the red carpet during your stay, because i have invested in our product and our product will not let you down.

again, thank you lizzie, your review hit the nail well and truly on the head!

Good sized room and facilities, great location in the centre of Bakewell. The breakfasts were of good quality and the Eastern european lady who served us at breakfast was incredibly efficient and polite.Unfortunately the Manager did lack the friendly and welcoming approach, and I agree with previous comments re the 'free' car park as it is very small and we had to pay to park in the public carpark on Saturday night due to lack of space at the Peacock .Compliments to the Chef and kitchen staff as we had dinner in the Peacock on two nights and the meals were so fresh and tasty,we could not have asked for better quality and choice. I would heartily recommend the Peacock for food and as a convenient place to stay in Bakewell,it's a shame that the Management let the Peacock down but it's food, location, and rooms still make it worth a visit.

We spent two nights at The Peacock. The room was acceptable.Found breakfast to be rushed as the cooked breakfast was brought before we had finished our cereal! Also the choice was poor, you either had cereal or toast.Manager had BIG attitude problems over parking issues as you will probably will get blocked in during your stay.So if you tell the manager any concern please beware of his attitude.

thank you for your review of the peacock!

first i would like to correct you on a couple of points re; breakfast...

breakfast was not rushed...you were late, and we have to prepare for the remainder of the day, and we still served you the full english with not a choice of cereal or toast, but everything on the menu,

orange juice or cranberrry
toast with jam, marmalade or honey
cereal, 5 choices
a full cooked breakfast with other options ie scrambeled egg etc.
and as much tea or coffee you could drink

please explain to me how that is a poor choice!!!

with the parking issue, unfortunately i am not a security guard, and i cannot possibly monitor parking in our car park, it is quite impossible, the fact that we are the only pub in bakewell that offers parking is a blessing, and if drivers parked in the designated lanes there would be no problem, please advise how you would deal with an issue such as this....impossible!

my attitude is to call a spade a spade whether they are welsh or other, and if you can not handle honesty and and forthright views, so be it, and hiding behind screens such as computer keyboards is probably one of the reasons our country is in such as mess and no doubt your son is one who spends a great part of his life on face book etc, where you can mutter under your breathe and hopefully get away with it, but not with graham webb, he will look you in the eye and deal with your problems on face value.

thank you for your time, and next time you comment on the peacock, please get the facts right!!!!

We had a great stay here- I can't understand how anybody could complain about the staff. Would definitely recommend for a couple of days.

Only used this place as a pub as had been there a couple of years previously and had found it very welcoming. However, having been back a few times, have found the bar staff, particularly the barman, offensive and will not be going back. It's shame because it's still a lovely pub, but I refuse to give my money in return for such rudeness.

mmn....it's a pity you carn't, or wouldn't discuss your issue at the time in person, but feel to vent your view behind a shielded curtain is the correct way to illustrate your point of view.
if we all pontificated by text, internet or dare i say facebook....i feel the world would be full of characterless, non de scrip shallow personel with no personality.
better to have an honest interpretation of oneself, with integrity and guts than to hide behind blind words.....
