“the sound of silence”
Reviewed 28 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

The cottage is exactly as advertised and I enjoyed a very quiet, peaceful and relaxing week. There was no sound at night other than the wind (and the rain) and the only lights were from neighbouring properties as there is no light pollution. You really are in the wilds of West Cork!
The cottage is 0.5 miles from the village of Durrus and the local shop had all the essentials that you require. If you need more then Bantry is only 6 miles away and there is a good supermarket there.
This was my first time to West Cork and it will not be the last. The area is ruggedly beautiful as you would expect and the scenery did not disappoint either. To really appreciate the area I suggest that you go hillwalking to get the best views - watch out for the bogs especially if it has been raining! If you cannot get up onto the hills then slow, leisurely drives are a must to enjoy the views.

Liked best: the peace and quiet and the scenery
Liked least: no local TV coverage for news and weather (RTE) which affects the whole area but there is satellite channels (British).

“Home away from home”
Reviewed 5 June 2015 for a stay in May 2015

Ardogeena Cottage is a little gem of a place to stay in a quaint little village called Durrus. The location is close enough to most things that west cork has to offer (which is a lot), it 's close enough to walk into the village for a drink at one of the pubs there (4 pubs in all) or to have a meal at the Sheeps Head Inn, or to drive to a lovely restaurant Blair Cove Restaurant or into Bantry for live music, pubs and restaurants. The Beara Way is an absolute must and so is Mizen Head.

The cottage itself is on the same property as the owners which is great, they are there to assist but leave you to enjoy the holiday. If it wasn't for the welcome of their two dogs you wouldn't even know there was anyone there. The cottage is super comfortable, big comfy bed and large bedroom (good for suitcases and travel bags), there is a very comfy leather lounge (which I snoozed on a couple of times) and a kitchen that has everything you need.

It was so nice to have a cottage and privacy rather than the usual B&B situation. Would definately visit again, Jane and Jim have done a great job with Ardogeena Cottage.

“Great cottage”
Reviewed 31 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

As independent travelers, we always prefer renting housekeeping cottages and Ardogeena Cottage was just what we were looking for as a home base for exploring the southwest of Ireland. Large and well equipped accommodations with a warm welcome accompanied by homemade soda bread and fresh eggs! Jane and Jim were very helpful with suggestions on what to see and do. Mizen Head is a must see and we loved the local atmosphere of the Bake Shop in Bantry., also Arundel's on Sheeps Head for fabulous chowder and mussels.

“Lovely, spacious pet freindly cottage in great location.”

We are a family of four with a medium sized dog and we stayed here in July 14. The cottage is really spacious, even though the kids were sleeping in the upstairs landing essentially they still had plenty of room and were very comfortable. The master bedroom is fabulous with an enormous and very comfortable bed. The kitchen has everything you could need and there were basic cupboard essentials provided as well as a lovely welcome pack of eggs (from their own hens) and yummy brown bread. There was an excellent wi-fi internet connection. Jane and Jim were very helpful and Jim went above and beyond the call of duty helping us out when we had some trouble with our car. The village of Durrus is a few minutes walk away and has some nice pubs and places to eat and is a brilliant staring point for touring the area. We travelled to Schull and Ballydehob and Crookhaven (all highly recommended) and the other direction to Glengariff (beyond stunning) and of course for shopping you are only 10 minutes drive from Bantry which has a big Supervalue and we got Chinese takeaway one night that was stlll hot when we reached the cottage. So you have a lovely quiet couuntry setting yet you are really close to everything you need. We will definitely come back here!

“A fantastic house in a beautiful location”
Reviewed 15 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We stayed as a family of three with a 9 nine month old baby and felt 100% looked after and at ease. A fantastic house in a beautiful location....

Perfect location for exploring West Cork and beyond. The local village is very nice, nice places to eat out. Lots of unspoilt stunning beaches in the area also, what more could you want.
