We booked the King Thomond as we wanted to visit the area but we also wanted somewhere a little quieter.
Having read some of the other reviews we were apprehensive, but need not have been.
We had a brilliant time there.
The hotel was very accommodating to our young baby who we were bringing, organising a ground floor room with a bath. We found the room to be a great size, and it was one of 2 rooms which had a little conservatory area which allowed us to have a nightcap when baby was asleep. Though this could get very warm, we were apprehensive to leave windows open as it was ground floor, and despite net curtains wasn't particularly private (though the area is extremely quiet and other than tour buses very few other guests were coming and going at night).
Other family members staying with us were given the room beside us, and they were happy with their room too.
All usual facilities of a hotel room to be expected.
If I was nit picking, some of the wallpaper looked a little out dated, there were drilled holes in the wall from an old fitting and the lamp plugs were an old fitment so couldn't be used for anything else. But I don't travel to judge interior decor.
Staff were brilliant. Special mention to who I think was the morning manager - Ann? who doted over our baby! Stopped and talked to the in laws up the town as well.
There is a little bar that is mostly staffed in the evening, though during the day we were able to get reception to get us a drink charged to the room.
The hotel was mainly otherwise filled by German tour group guests, there was no noisiness or rowdiness, nice and peaceful.
There were a couple of nights with an Irish singer and dancing, I went down one night with the father in law to enjoy them, but otherwise from our room near reception we could barely hear it, and it didn't disturb the baby.
Wifi - this is available in reception / lobby, but not in the room. However this is not as big an issue as it would've been even a year ago as there is an excellent 4G reception, and with no roaming charges on most UK mobile networks these days.
There is a nice little garden to the side with 2 tables, if you get a nice afternoon it was nice to sit with a drink, however the Irish summer weather can be changeable!
Breakfast was nice, filled us up til dinner time. We had a meal the first night - a delicious piece of cod with generous sides!
Location wise, a 10 minute walk into the main town square, 2 minutes to the old Spa building. Huge car park, just on a main road. Perfect if you want somewhere quiet, otherwise any party animals may wish to stay closer to town!
