I was originally going to come on here to sing the praises of this restaurant but sadly that is not the case. We had been here before in October 2011 and loved it, the food, atmosphere. We couldn't have faulted it. But our most recent visit was shockingly bad. There were too many things wrong to write them down here. I had read the most recent reviews on here before going and thought they sound a bit strange but they are accurate. I spoke with a friend after we had been there and they have said the same thing.

This restaurant once was a good place but it has gone downhill and is dragging the name of the K-club downhill by being associated with it. I have written to the k-club about it so will be interested to see what response I get back.

Aim to arrive a half hour early as in the pitch dark with no signage it is an adventure in itself trying to locate the restaurant!

One of my old lecturers in college said to the class once that you never get a second chance to make a good impression! How right he was.

Service overall appalling - I know it's Christmas week and the young lady on duty probably didn't want to be there however in an establishment such as the K Club you would think she would let on she was half interested at least in paying customers! I found out afterwards that it has in fact nothing to do with the K Club in that its a separate entity. The K Club must be sighing with relief on that one! 4 adults and us in the room - all put together in one section with the rest of the room inside the door completely empty.

Platter for two was bland to say the least and costly for €17! They must be looking to get rid of some lettuce as we had bland salad leaves with everything. Main courses were dreadful - a light soya sauce is in fact a tomato based liquid. I returned my main course of Rendang Curry as I was biting into chunks of raw lemongrass and ginger. The colour and texture of it was dreadful and as the rice was not included in the €€24 main course we had to pay €3 extra for the most miserable tiny bowl of rice imaginable. As the waitress was taking away my main course she asked me if I would like something else from the menu so I asked for the chicken satay and fried rice. Out arrived a starter portion of chicken again with the ubiquitous salad leaves. I felt like Oliver asking for "more"!

We had to ask for our water to be refilled a couple of times. The dessert menu was left at our table with no one returning to to take our order. After 15 mins we decided to go to the waitress at the main desk and bid our farewell commenting that we would never return!

So, we are home now ready to sit down for a Saturday night and we're so sorry we didn't decide to get our usual takeaway from The Far East in Palmerstown!

Dreadful restaurant - stay well away if you want my advice

I concur with other reviewers that the place is hard to find, and even outside the building there is no sign to suggest you've reached your destination (the restaurant is upstairs).
I wouldn't have minded paying the €23.50 for my Mongolian Style Lamb main course if the dish merited it, but it didn't (having to pay extra for a small bowl of rice certainly didn't add to the experience) but the meal was bland, the sauce was so mediocre. It was really nothing special. My partner's duck at €26.50 didn't fare much better. With a tip the meal came to over €100 for two (without wine). All-in-all, disappointing.

What a strange place!

Finding the place at all is the first big problem. It is miles from the K Club itself, situated in the Smurf-it golf clubhouse. There is almost a complete absence of any sign-posting and you approach the place down a series of unlit tracks. When you get to the clubhouse it looks deserted - because it is. Built in 2004 for the movers and shakers that doubtless used to frequent it, it is now a zombie clubhouse with not a single golfer (or other human being) in evidence - really spooky. You just get the feeling that some hidden security guard is following you around on his CCTV.There is not even an outside sign for the restaurant.

We had booked the previous evening and had been told that there were no tables available between 7.30 and 9.00 pm. When we entered the restaurant there was nobody there to greet us. When a young woman eventually emerged out of the kitchen, we were greeted with 'have you booked?' I was then asked 'what time did you book the table for?' We were one minute early! I was then asked 'did you book it under the name of 'xxxxxxxx ?' I said no - I usually use my own name. They had managed to screw up a booking made the previous evening - always a good start. We were taken through the restaurant to our table. There were only two other diners in the place and we were shown to a table a mere six inches from there table. I asked 'could we perhaps have a different table?' The meeter and greeter said ' we're fully booked tonight'. My wife responded - yes it looks as though you are!' She reluctantly led us to one of the other thirty or more vacant tables. No offer to take our coats. (No further diners arrived for over 30 minutes)

I ordered a Thai green curry which was good, but my wife's Kuala Lumper prawns had obviously been kicking around for several weeks as they tasted like those moldy prawns you get in second rate Chinese takeaways. I ordered a bottle of Savignon Blanc and was brought a bottle of Merlot! The waiter subsequently screwed the cap back on the wine - a real sign of a top-notch establishment. The waitress didn't know where the Gents was!

The food is described as Royal Thai Cuisine but is far from it - it is just standard run of the mill fare. The prices are ridiculously high for the standard of food and service - and could partly explain the lack of customers - there could be no repeat custom for sure. I suppose they rely upon guests from the K club who need change of scene.

You have to feel sorry for the owners of this restaurant who presumably entered into a lease with the K Club at some extortionate cost at the height of the Celtic Tiger when the clubhouse was buzzing, and are now stuck with a high rent in a desolate clubhouse in the middle of nowhere with no clientele. There's really no solution. We had a good laugh tho' !

All in all, I don't think we will return given the lousy service, the rip-off prices and the consistent food quality - and I could hardly recommend it to anyone.

Booked a table for Friday night in late September. Went there with family for a Friday treat dinner. No clear signs of where the restaurant is, so we got lost in K Club surroundings, wonderful place have to say. Rang the restaurant twice and got no answer.. finally with the help of main hotel staff we found it. What a surprise! it was almost 7pm and we where the only dinners in the restaurant. We left it around 9pm and still no one else come in. By this aspect alone we felt bit uncomfartable. We where welcomed by staff member who brought as to the table and where given menus and wine list. Have to say food is way overpriced. I know the K Club is very posh 5 star place but this restaurant is far from main buildings and not much related apart from being in the same surroundings. Anyway we ordered food, 1 starter, 2 salads, 2 mains and 1 starter as main course for our 4 year old daughter. Only when we mentioned this will be girls main course, waiter "realised" kid will be eating as well and offered separate kids menu. Than while looking into my 8 month pregnant partner asked if she would like some wine??? we got tap water instead. now we were waiting our starters about 55-60 min to come, while after around 45 min waiter come in and said there is some problem in the kitchen and this is being the reason for delay. ok then. when he brought our starters and salads he announced that my salad is not available today. I was shocked. Apart from waiting our food to arrive we had to wait on our own for an hour and then we were told that some food is not available, that perhaps might be acceptable if the restaurant was packed full. obviously our little daughter was so bored by this time and our evening was going to downsides anyway. Than our main courses arrived by different waitress this time. Food was ok, but even me and my partner ordered different food it looked quite similar apart from different sauces. ouch.. once we finished our meal we asked for bill and almost ran away from there. We love asian food, thai in particular but I have to say this place is definitely the one we will not be back. Would not recommend it to anyone in fact.
