I arrived here late on Sunday for a business trip, only for Storm Ophelia to arrive the following day. Power and water were lost soon after, but nothing was too much trouble for the staff, even if they didn't all make it in. Monday was spent in front of an open fire reading by torch and candlelight, and they kept the beer flowing and the conversation light.

The staff were amazing, the rooms were clean and the food was superb, from breakfast to dinner. This is honestly one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in, and my first in the Republic. I cannot recommend them highly enough, especially Tomas who learned my first name and greeted me like a long lost brother. Brilliant service all round.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have a little more traffic noise, but nothing excessive.

We had a family function over the weekend and had a meal in the hotel for 30 people. The food was superb and the three course meal was very reasonably priced. We were able to choose from the full menu with a choice of 7-8 starters, mains and desserts. Complimentary tea and coffee was included. Everybody was very impressed with the quality of the meal and portion sizes were great too. Staff were excellent all day. I would really recommend the Walter for any kind of family function. Ten out of ten.

My husband and I stayed here in July. the whole experience could not have been better. From making booking to checking out, the staff were brilliant. The cleanliness shone through everywhere, not a cobweb to be seen even in the highest places. The bar atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. The food was to a very high standard. Breakfast was amazing, exceptional range of homemade breads. The only downside was we were only there for one night.

Room Tip: room in front looks out over the park and sea.

We booked a weekend deal, two nights B&B with an evening meal for two adults. There had been a bit of a mixup via the website in that the deal is for a voucher to be cashed in at a later date, but a quick phone call got that corrected - with a rate reduction too. The room was good, clean, and recently refurbished. We half expected the included dinner to be a limited choice from a trimmed down menu, but we were offered a full choice from the Walter menu. There was a large group of sports fans in the bar, and it was loud, though surprisingly melodic, until their food was served. The service was excellent. Staff were very friendly and helpful, particularly Tomasz. Breakfast was very good. The traditional full Irish was above average, and the range of in-house prepared muesli, fruit and Limerick ham was very impressive.
